Just 4 Today: January 16, 2006

Just 4 Today I will take my daughter’s dog, Archie, for a walk (maybe she’ll come with me!). I know that he’s good for 2.5 miles and with him pulling my chain I move really fast.

Also today – I will work on my website project. And for a little bit of help, I’m going to take the advice of my own advertisement and refer to the Seven Steps on the Writer’s Path : The Journey from Frustration to Fulfillment, by Nancy Pickard. Not just for writers, I can tell you from personal experience that the guidelines in this book work for projects that are creative in any way.

I promise — I’m not going to sneak ads into this room. But there are two things that make this particular book special. First the author is a regular here and I’m hoping she’ll give us some tips if we ask nicely. Second, I want us to develop a concept of steps for the members of this site.

We are starting down a new path, a path of power and control over our lives. We have the power to shape our future. And I’d like to talk about that today. I know that we’re taking things one day at a time. But some of those days will be more difficult than others. And I think books like Pickard’s Seven Steps on the Writer’s Path : The Journey from Frustration to Fulfillment can help us through them.

    (Thank you.)

Yesterday I didn’t “announce” my goal for the day, and funnily enough I found I was tempted a lot more often. So bright and early, I’m saying here: Just4Today I won’t play the computer game I’m addicted to.

When you put up your Commitment page today, I’m going over there, too, Kb. Yesterday I used all the exercise I got as an excuse to pig out between meals. Ugh. At least a few times a week I’m going to do the no-between-meals thing, and on those days I’ll slip over to your commitment page, too.

kansas – That’s a good thing to remind everyone. It’s just for today. Just get through the day. Today I DID take the dog for a walk and we walked 2.5 miles! At full-dog speed. I’m pooped.
