Well, I had two good walking days with a dog to pull me along. Archie probably got a good 10 miles in each day, but I was pretty happy with my 2.5 miles (5 total). But he’s gone now, back to St. Louis and college life.
So Just 4 Today, I will (1) say something meaningful to Howard Dean (at the Democracy Bondholder’s meeting) and (2) when I get to work give my major project my full attention and see how much progress I can make. (3) At lunch time and breaks I will walk briskly and get right back to work. I could get 3 miles in if I do it right.
Just 4 Today, I will be focused.

Just 4 Today, I will brave the cold weather to “walk the loop” this afternoon, after I finish my paper.
So, what are you saying to Howard?
I’m trying to think of something about a National Healthcare Policy. How that, even more than the Iraq thing was what brought me to his campaign. And what can an individual do to influence the move toward Healthcare For All. This issue haunts me.
And for God’s sake! Just 4 Today, I will take my medication! I just discovered that I didn’t take it AT ALL yesterday. I never forget it — but somehow yesterday I didn’t give it a thought.
Just 4 Today, no computer game–going on second week now.
Just 4 Today, no between meal eating. See you on the commitment page.
Goal 1 met! My paper is finished…now for my walk.
So, what’d you say?
Just 4 Today, I will eat a salad for lunch rather than a burger and fries.
My Russian neighbor did it. She made latkes again, and brought a plateful to us with the regular neighborhood gossip of who’s getting a “new” car, who forgot where his tulips were planted and dug them up by mistake, whose child is suspected of breaking the head off whose cement lawn swan, and I smiled and nodded and tried to look at her instead of those latkes.
So just for today, I will wait until it is time for me to eat, and then I will have 1 (one) latke, and I will dribble only a few drops of mango chutney on it, and I will then walk away from the plate, and not look back.
I did it, I did all the walking I said. And I managed to get focused, at least enough to do the things I really wanted to get done at work, and when I saw Howard Dean, I did manage to ask him my question — just as I wanted to do.
Just for today, I did what I planned.
