Sunday Greetings and an enthusiastic Welcome to New Visitors (and other issues suitable for an Open Thread)

What I like best about Eat 4 Today (aside from being forced to publically renew my commitment every single morning) are the contributions from the members. Through your comments and articles Eat 4 Today has much more to offer than would be possible if all the information had to come from me.

Comments are welcome from everyone (we just ask that you register.) And the policy here is that every registered user has the authority to post an article — to share their story, or an idea, or fact.

So many of us are struggling with Self-Service Health Issues: the illnesses and conditions that can’t be treated by just taking a pill for a couple of weeks. We’re struggling with conditions that require fantastic changes in our lifestyles. And Eat 4 Today is a place where we can share ideas for what changes work and for making those changes stick.

I know that not everyone has something to say everyday. But when you’re ready — I hope you feel comfortable posting your story or idea here.

And in the meantime, if you’d like to drop in for a quick “hello” today, if you could tell us what you like (or would like to see here) that would be great!

    Hello, visitors, newbies, and lurkers!

I don’t have disease dilemmas, but this site has helped me do three things, one of which (#2) I didn’t even know I needed to do until I came here:

    l. Break an addiction to a computer game. Yay!

    2. Start drinking water. I think I have been in a dehydrated state for s very long time. A cough I’ve had for years has practically disappeared since I started doing the water thing, and I feel a lot better in general.

    3. Lose a few pounds when I want to.

That hydration issue is a big one. I think most of us are spending time in a dehydrated state.

And the recipes kansas! I think we have the bestest recipes. Somebody posted some good ones today for karela (bitter melon) which I don’t like, and so was sad to hear that the capsules (which I was looking for) are said not to work.

But there are recipes for all tastes. Even for people who like mackerel. People have posted ones for asparagus cooked in the oven with balsamic vinegar and sweet chiles that I made and actually ate up.

    Hey All,

Can we continue with the next installments of
“I was addicted to spike-heeled shoes until I got hit by the car” here?

How badly were you hurt, kb? Scrapes? bruises? And why didn’t your friends (who had seen you flying through the air) not offer to drive home with you to see if you were going to be okay?

Kansas, what you said about Ayurveda sounds about right to me–I really have a very sketchy knowledge about it–but it would make sense to balance the various flavors in order to get maximum benefit.

    J4T I’m drinking my 2 liters of water. And…..

J4T I want to hear more about the spike heeled shoes. :)

This place is addictive! (In a good way, of course). Also, sneaky …

    - why, just yesterday morning I was noticing how creaky and aged I was feeling, and thinking… I’ve gotta get out and walk again in the mornings. Only, it’s soooo cold out there (for California) and I was warm and didn’t want to put on this or that or go out into the cold, and what did it matter if I waited til it was warm, or at least til tomorrow and so on… when comes tiptoeing into my mind a little voice saying… “You can do this. Just for today”.

True. So, I did ;) . (and today too)

tiptoeing into my mind a little voice saying… “You can do this. Just for today”.

I’m so excited!! That’s happened to me too! And that’s what I want to spread from this site….

    “The little voice…”

Hi katie and all the regulars here. The best thing about this site is the fact of the variety of problems we’ve all brought here yet the universal theme is welcome for everyone no matter the problem and also the fact we’re exploring all options on how to help ourselves feel better in the short run and the long run. And the fact which can’t be stressed enough that not everything works for everyone-one size does not fit all. People’s metabolism, family genetics etc are all too different for one solution for say the suga-diabetes or whatever else we may be talking about here.

My particular health problem(probable HNPP-probable because only a DNA test would diagnosis it for sure-nerve conduction tests only show extensive nerve and muscle damage) while will probably not be familiar to anyone but does have the same kind of nerve damage as diabetes and I have the same concerns for my foot problems so I feel comfortable here being able to hear about others problems with this concern. (my feet went permanently numb way back in 1988 and have only got worse/weaker as the years have gone by and unfortunately in an odd way my feet continue to ‘look’ better than many people who have no foot problems-which also has made many doctors dismiss my foot problems).

This might be of interest to some: possible link between heart defects and migraines.

Thanks for the link FARfetched. I went over and read the article and unfortunately in my case it doesn’t apply. The only thing wrong with my heart now is only 2 replacement veins after bypass surgery.

Anyone who come in and reads about migraines will be interested in it though.

KB what do you think about a diary that gives 1 or 2 sentence descriptions about links for all important info on migraines. Heck that could be for just about anything else also.

  13. Posted March 13, 2006 at 7:26 pm | Permalink

FamilyMan — I’d love it if you could put together such a list of links.

In fact, to makre sure it’s always available, I’ve added a list of Popular Subjects over on the left. So that people can get to that list quickly, just by clicking on the Migraine Headache link.

    What do you think?

I think that’s an excellent idea KB. I’ll start working on it.

Rats, I was hoping maybe it would lead to an end to your troubles, FamilyMan. But maybe it will help someone else out down the road.

Thanks again FARfetched. That’s the reason I as KB about the links diary. That’s really good information and once I get the links diary going it will be like a one stop shopping area for info.
