Just 4 Today: March 29, 2006

Just 4 Today, I’m going to drink 2 liters of water (which I didn’t do yesterday — I don’t know why), walk 3 miles (which I did). And Just Today, I want to move around in my cubicle as much as possible, rather than sitting there like a lump for hours on end.

My problem is (well one of many) that when I’m at rest, I’m totally at rest. There must be something in between doing nothing and walking._ Maybe tapping my toes?

J4T I’ll drink my 2 liters of water, walk a little farther, and weed the flower beds.

Good Morning, FamilyMan, for some reason I’m thinking about rereading Candide tonight when I get home.

Morning KB. Tap those toes in the cubicle this morning and twirl around in your chair a couple of times. Repeat every five minutes as needed. :)

Here’s a weird thing. I just now read this:

Entertainment Weekly (March 31, 2006, p. 36), in the article called “Breaking the Code, 10 things we learned about Dan Brown from his recent trial”

    5) Brown is hardcore about his writing regimen.
He wakes every morning at 4 a.m., seven days a week — a habit that started when he had to balance two teaching jobs and had no other time to write without distractions. On his desk in his New Hampshire home rests an antique hourglass, which he uses to mark hourly breaks from writing “to do push-ups, situps, and some quick stretches.” He noted, “I find this helps keep the blood (and ideas) flowing.”

Is olivia around? Do you think we could use this to justify 5 minute breaks every hour for a quick lap or two up and down a hall? I can’t quite see myself doing pushups in my cubicle.

I heard of writers who set certain times to write, but not intervals for exercise. Good idea.

No Olivia’s left for work. Maybe situps in the cubicle.

You can do the Liza Minelli Cabaret Leg Crossing Chair Dance. You can lift books instead of cans to do the arm part.

You can stand up and do the hands flat on floor knees straight, then hands in air. I will try to think of more cubicle friendly exercises.

J4T I will drink my water, not eat between meals, and do my half hour of moving about on my living room carpet.

Interesting moment yesterday. I came home from working feeling depleted. Took the chocolate cure, even though it meant eating between meals. A little later, I thought about popcorn–because that’s what you eat after chocolate–and I thought, “I’ve already broken my vow, so I may as well go ahead and just have the popcorn.”

But then I thought, “No, I may have had chocolate an hour ago, but Just 4 the Rest of This Afternoon I will not eat between meals.

It worked. This Is a Good Place!

J4T I will drink 2L of water & only eat at mealtime. Feeling a bit restless, so I will put a mile onto the treadmill before dinner. Maybe even put on some music & dance for a bit.

Hmmm, at the moment I’m finding the drinking more water is forcing me to get up more often from my cube anyways. But, I like the idea of getting up once an hour, just to do something… you could even set up an hourly alarm on the computer to remind you? Anyways, that’s my $0.02 (CDN).
