I’m going to walk 3 miles (somehow, I walked 4 yesterday) and drink 2 liters of water.
And stop by every bookstore I can find on the way home to look at The Virgin of Small Plains — which will actually (after all this time) finally be in the stores today!!!
{{{kansas}}} Congratulations!

((((katiebird)))) thank you! I’m going to visit some stores today just for the unblushing joy of seeing it on sale. I just read a wonderful quote from Hilaire Belloc:
He once summed up his philosophy of writing as follows: “The whole art is to write and write and write and then offer it for sale, just like butter.”
Lol! My kinda guy. This is one pound of butter you can have guilt-free.
J4T I’m gong to drink lots and lots of water.
Backe in George’s good graces now.
Congrats both KB and Kansas.
J4T I will drink 2L of water, not eat between meals, and try to incorporate more movement into my day.
Congrats to both kb & kansas!!!
No congratulations are due to me at all (unless you are referring to the fact that I finished the taxes late last night!)
I’m just cheerleading for a friend — that’s it. I hope I didn’t imply that I had anything to do with The Virgin of Small Plains - I didn’t. And don’t.
Please don’t congratulate me today.
Congratulations, monalisa!! What a relief, eh? Are you doing anything to celebrate?
KB I guess I should have fleshed my post out more. You both have great milestones to celebrate.
Kansas - Your new book. Congrats.
KB - Your public speaking/library idea. Congrats
You are both intelligent, funny, insightful women that I admire a great deal.
monalisa I’m not leaving you out of the admiration catagory. But before I can give you my full congrats, I want to hear about the presentation. I looked through previous posts to see if there was anything, but could find anything. Maybe I missed something.
I’ve been sitting on the edge of my chair wondering how it went.
FamilyMan, I’m glad I asked, I’m happy to accept congratulations for that idea (Library Presentations) (particularly if other people start doing it too).
And I too want to hear the details about monalisa’s successful ‘defense’
{{{{{{{{{{{kansas}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Congratulations on your big day! If we could put images in comments I would present you with a large bunch of yellow roses. English ones, with a squillion petals each and dizzying fragrance. Or maybe one of the pink damascenas, since they are so like you and you have been declared a rose. Do not be deceived, there is not a one of us here who does not preen a little when we talk about our internet friend, the celebrated author.
Family Man, we are extremely blessed to be surrounded by so many talented and accomplished ladies. I don’t think kbird yet suspects just what she has started. And one day we will be able to boast how we nagged her to hurry up and start the website, and put on all kinds of airs befitting charter members of the very first E4T entity.
I want to know about monalisa’s presentation too, I am eager to know if she remembered to use the public speaking nervousness vanquishing trick I told her.
Ductape, I’m pretty sure that we can insert images:
I had no idea kbird! Well, if I have committed sufficiently nerdish nerdhood, we should all be seeing roses that look like kansas.
and of course, yellow ones for the book drop!
Alas, either I failed to commit the correct nerdhood, or only you can post images.

oh poo. Well it is the thought that counts.
< img src="">
1 - put the url for the image between the quotes
2 - take out the space between the < and the 'i'
But, make sure you're pointing to just the image and not a page or something weird.
so it looks like this (without that one extra space:

testing. . .
It took a second for the image to snap into place. But the links you’ve got should work.
That is how I tried it the first time. Here goes again:
Hey Everyone! yeah, kb, my congrats was in relation to the whole library & taking this site live idea. Spread the word and all that…
Ok, time for some details about my defense yesterday. It was in the afternoon, so I had the morning to relax and get in the engineering zone… About an hour before my defense my supervisor informed me that the committee chair had injured himself and couldn’t actually make it to the university. So he would be teleconferenced in, and would run the exam from home by phone (not a normal situation by any means).
The way the exam works is that the comittee talks for a bit, then they invite you in to present. My presentation went fairly well, with only some minor nervousness that meant I tripped up on a couple of sentences, and I ended up talking for just over 20 minutes. Relative to other times I’ve had to present, this presentation went fabulously! I’m not sure if I consciously used that trick, but I felt secure while standing up & talking.
After that, there were the questions. First round went for an hour, and the chair had to get the profs to move on. I guess my work was a bit too interesting, because no one noticed how much time had passed. Second round went for about 25 minutes, at which point I got kicked out of the room. The profs deliberated for like 5 minutes, and then they called me in to say congratulations, you’ve passed!!
I had some typos & ambiguous sentences in my thesis, so I’m correcting those at the moment. After my supervisor looks over the corrections, I can go print off final copies of the thesis, and then I’ll be officially done!
Ductape, I’ll do some research and see if I have to change a setting to let you post comments — because I’m stummped. I don’t remember seeing a limitation on this.
monalisa — that sounds so wonderful, like it couldn’t have gone better. Even if the committee chair had been there.
And now what will you do with your evenings?
You guys are the best. And the thought IS definitely what counts, dear Duct. I love my bouquet of URLS.
Monolisa, they must have been REALLY impressed to keep you for so long and to decide so fast. We are all preening as if we’d done it ourselves!!
