I’ve tried a number of different ways to work fruits into my diet. Yesterday I got another fruit salad from that diner down the street./ But while I’ve liked it in the past, yesterday it tasted like old socks. An odd flavoring for fruit.t Maybe they didn’t rinse them well before chopping?
Anyway, today I’m bringing my sliced apples with me. They haven’t failed me yet.. I’ve been thinking about having baby carrots someday for variety — but working vegetables into my diet doesn’t seem to take as much effort.
Are you having some fruit with lunch? Or are you more of a vegetable person?
Being a creature of habit, I routinely bring a small banana (they’re my favorite) for morning break and an apple/orange/grapes/stawberries, etc. for afternoon break. That way I don’t starve between meals and get my fruits in.
Getting the required amounts of veggies is almost impossible for me. I like baby carrots, brussel sprouts and broccolli … and not much else. Having been force-fed beans/peas as a child until I gagged or threw up [my mother's misguided attempt to MAKE me healthy], I don’t eat them now. (Nothing tastes more like an old wet sock to me than pinto beans.) =:-p
That sounds like me and my apple slices. Did you check out the link to the Eat 5 to 9 a day page?
You might be surprised how small a vegetable serving is. It’s basically what would fit in your cupped hand.
katiebird, thanks for the link. Surprisingly enough, it appears veggies are not as problematic as imagined. They’re also mixed in with the frozen lunches so they’re hardly noticed (and taste better that expected, too!)
