I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. Just today. And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.
I can hardly believe that it’s Friday morning already — this week just flew by. It was moving week at work and I went from being totally unpacked on Monday morning to being pretty much settled in the new place by the time I left yesterday.a In between, I threw away a ton of paper that I don’t need anymore and packed paper, books and odds and ends — and kept to my daily pledge.
The thing that makes The Commitment easy is that it doesn’t require anything extra. You don’t have to go to meetings (unless it helps to check in here — which it probably does. But you can do it on your own time.) and you don’t have to cook anything special. It’s free.e You don’t have to tell anyone about it. Amazingly, while people are always fascinated by what we eat, they hardly notice what we don’t eat at all!f Just say thanks, I’ll have some later — they don’t have to know that later is not today. Or at least not until dessert.
Because (if you are doing it right) you really are doing The Commitment just today. And if your getting enough sleep, that’s really just 16 hours or so.e Even less if you count times like getting dressed or driving when you probably wouldn’t have been eating or even snacking anyway. So figure about 14 hours if you make The Commitment today.
There are certain things no one can do for us.u And managing a self-help disease is one of those things. It can be a daunting problem, overwhelming and discouraging.b And failing the challenge could kill us.
Before you decide that one day couldn’t make any difference, try making one change. Just today.I I’m betting it makes all the difference in the world.
