Afternoon snacks and The Commitment

I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. Just today.w And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.

The biggest concern that people have when they hear about what I’m doing with The Commitment is that they want to be able to eat a certain snack (it could be a morning, afternoon or evening snack). And that’s a misunderstanding of my pledge.k Because I’m not saying, I’ll only eat my 3 meals a day. Nothing in that affirmation limits the number of meals.P Even for me. And certainly not for you.

A formal snack is just another name for a mini-meal and is totally acceptable with the restrictions of The Commitment.

What I’m against (for everyone) is the mindless grazing where you grab a couple of chips out of a bag, or reach into the fridge and get a slice of cheese and bread and eat it with the door still open. Or reach into a candy jar for a small handful of M & Ms and then another. Those are not snacks.a You’re not even conscious that you’ve eaten. And you probably aren’t keeping track of how often you do it, or how much you’ve eaten.

A snack is different.t You put your treat (whatever it is) on a plate. You sit down and eat it.c Maybe even with a friend or someone in the family. But alone is fine also.> Taking the time to put your food on a plate (maybe even slice your fruit or veg if your having that) gives you time to think about what you’re eating. That makes it a meal.

And that’s the most important thing.

kbird one of the most useful tips I have received on this site is “put it on a plate.”

To some, it may be obvious, but to me it was not, and when I discovered that an old favorite cookie had reappeared, and was now fat free and had only 7 grams of sugar, well, let us just say that “put it on a plate” has been a very helpful tip for me :)

I now put two, or maybe three, on a plate, and enjoy those, and give the rest of the box away before I have a chance to either refill the plate or forget that plates exist.

For me, the question is control, not how many times a day one eats, but whether one is in control of WHAT one eats, and how much of it, that it be a conscious decision, planned, if you will.

I will have an extra small serving of rice, and eat no bread with lunch so that later in the day I can have two or three cookies.

Or I will do the same thing at dinner so that I can enjoy my small scoop of No Sugar Added or the 4 grams of sugar 4 carbs ice cream with Madame during our regular late night White Trash TV viewing. (Don’t forget that tomorrow Amy and Mary Jo meet face to face!)

Is that the Spouse Switching show? I’ve missed it the last couple of weeks.

No, the spouse switching show is wonderful but this is one of the tabloid shows, and they are talking about Amy Fisher and Mary Jo Buttafuoco.
