(stretch) (yawn) Wait! Before you totally relax!

Take a little walk around your living room. I know, you’re anxious to rest, but let’s each spend 5 minutes walking around. THEN you can relax for an hour or so. Yes, this is the E4T Exercise blog . . . .
Time — 6:40 p.m. First Set.

Update, 7:43 p.m. Second Set. Time for a walk. (picture me pacing)

Update, 8:39 p.m. Third Set. Have you rested up? This one’s the hard one. It’s so tempting to point out all the other times I’ve done my walking tonight. But, this is no time to slack off. Come on! Just 5 minutes!

Update — 9:30 p.m. Fourth Set. At last! If we do this set, we actually can relax knowing we did all we could.

I know you think you can wait until you ‘finish’ something. But don’t.

Afternoons can fly by while we try to finish up for the day. But you’ll be a lot more effective if you get up and walk around (or stretch or something.)g I’m home for the afternoon, but I’m taking a break. I’m going outside and walking around the yard for a while.

What are you going to do for your break?s (Or have you done it already?)

The Eat 5-9 a Day site, your questions answered. The E4T Fruit and Vegetable Bar

I’ve been poking around the Eat 5-9 a Day site and I found their Resources and Tools FAQ page. They’ve got answers to a lot of questions that have come up here. And some that haven’t. I hope the questions are coming from real people.

Here’s my favorite:

  • Does the lettuce on my hamburger count as a serving?
  • While all the fruits and vegetables you eat in a day can add up and count towards your 5 to 9 a day goal, unless you have half a cup of vegetables on your hamburger, it is not a full serving.

Another good question:

  • Why did the 5 A Day message change to 5 to 9 A Day?
  • The message changed to better reflect the goals for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which state 5 to 9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day depending on a person’s age, gender, and calorie needs. The number 9 is also supported by the latest science regarding disease reduction. In the last few years, scientific literature has provided evidence that diets high in fruits and vegetables (8-10 servings a day) are most protective against disease.

The site has links to other nutrition sites and I think I’m going to use some of the information from all these sites in this spot for a while.

May 8, 2006 — Just 4 Today

I’m keeping track of this in a calendar also, just so I can carry it around as a reminder. But posting the public commitments helps me to focus on the important goals — and they aren’t all food or exercise related.

Just 4 Today I’m going to drink 2 liters of water and walk 3 miles (I’m going to go to the high school track for a while after dinner.) And because this will be a weird enough day (This will be my 2nd day in the new office and I’m off work for the appointments with doctors this afternoon) I’m not going to commit to more than that.

What are you going to do today?
