Thinking my way to an exercise program?
I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. Just today.l And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.
I spent part of the holiday weekend playing with my camera trying to record my progress as I did some of the exercises I got from my brother-in-law (the physical trainer.) You can see the only successful shot of the set in the post below.e It was a fun project. I learned how to use both the timer and the remote control on the camera./ So, you’ll probably be seeing more photos of me as I work my way through the documents he gave me.
The weekend before last, I spent almost an hour with Chris first talking about the mission of Eat4Today and my history with obesity and my old fear that I’d never be able to control my tendency to weight gain. But it seems that a lot of his clients are people like me.. He’s used to working with exercise newbies. He’s worked with other cubicle/office dwellers and when I asked about exercises that could be done during a 10 or 15 minute break, he knew just what I meant.m And the packet he gave me has a couple dozen little routines that are perfect.
So, I’m not making any promises, at least not yet. I tend to take baby steps when I start something new.w And so I’ve been thinking about this. I’ve been picturing myself doing leg-lifts and stretches and lifting those weights in my new office at work.
Maybe as a test, I’ll take a photo of me trying one of the routines there?o It wouldn’t hurt to think about it.

May 29, 2006 – Just 4 Today
Just 4 Today I’m going to drink 2 liters of water, walk 3 miles, take 2 servings of fiber supplement and have coffee with a friend.
I slept later than I could ever imagine! And I’m way behind on each of these things.o What are you going to do today?

6 simple things you can do to keep weight off forever.
I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. Just today. And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.
(I am so sorry — I overslept and just woke up a few minutes ago!)
The thing that’s so cool about this commitment is that weight continues to slowly (very slowly) melt off even though I’m not counting calories or eating less than I want or foods I don’t like. I think if I’m careful, I could really do this for the rest of my life.
At the end of July I’ll have done this for a year. And it will be time to make a new affirmation — one that can carry me through the next 50 years or so. I thought I’d start today by listing some of the things I’m doing everyday that I think are important:
- Don’t eat between meals
- Don’t take seconds
- Drink 2 liters of water
- Weigh-in
- Walk 3 miles
- Touch base with a support group
At first glance, it’s a long list. But, I don’t think it’s too daunting. Most of the things on that list can be done with very simple changes in behavior. The hardest is the first two — and those are probably require the last one for real success. Because we’re used to eating whenever we want and as much as we want. And they’ve found that it takes the support of others who are making the same changes for us to really succeed. Continue reading

May 28, 2006 – Just 4 Today
Just 4 today I’m going to have my fiber supplement twice (I’ve had it once already), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve had one), walk 3 miles (none yet), back up this database and upgrade the software (which I hope will solve the ‘password’ problem.
As you can see, the goals mentioned here don’t have to be food related. What are you going to do today?
