July 4, 2006 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I’ll walk 3 miles (I walked 6 yesterday) and take my fiber supplement twice (I’m going to wait until after my walk to take it) and drink 2 liters of water (I’ve had a glass or so) and do some stuff around the house so it looks good when I go back to work tomorrow.

(Whew — it’s only 77 degrees!)

What are you going to do today?

Stumbling through vacation

I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. Just today.a And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.

Today is a holiday and the last day of my vacation. And in days gone by, I would have been nervous that I’d lose momentum from too much outdoor eating and the distraction of too much family.t And now that I think of it — after a week and a half of vacation, I would have lost my focus and momentum for sure.

Keeping my daily goals in mind (and posting the Just 4 Today’s) really helped. Except for the first few days (when the temperatures were cool) it took some planning to get my walking done. It got up to 95 degrees most days, maybe hotter on that h.s. track, so if I didn’t walk early in the morning (I’m going to leave soon) I had to wait until just before dark.e And even then it was always still above 90 degrees!

I did end up eating more meals (I had a couple of mini-meals each day), it just seemed to happen from being home all day. But I bought some ready-made fruit salad and had some in a little custard dish a couple of times a day.e So, while my eating schedule was a little different, it wasn’t “bad” — I definitely ate my 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Keeping all my goals in mind has made this vacation a little more stressful than vacations past. But the result is wonderful.
