I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds, just today. And I’m going to try this for a year to see what happens.
I’m back from my walk. It was 85 degrees when I left and 95 degrees an hour later when I got back. So if I didn’t leave when I did, I would have missed my chance. I had a lovely daydream while I walked about ways to develop a system of universal health care for everyone. It was probably inspired by the $22,000 bill my son’s girl friend got in return for her uninsured surgery last week. Or maybe I’m worried about the bill for my uninsured nephew’s accident (not a car accident) a couple of days ago.
Ah, well. At least I’ve got health insurance. That’s the important thing; isn’t it? It’s not my responsibility if these two young adults (both 24 years old) have each suddenly acquired over $20,000 of debt — is it?
Has anyone ever done a survey or poll to see how many families and individuals are affected by the health care crisis? We all know that there are over 50 million people in the U.S without access to affordable health care. But don’t most of us who are covered have relatives or close friends — children or parents even — who don’t have health insurance?
Well, it got terribly hot while I walked, but that dream of not having to worry about crushing debt while we recover from serious illnesses and accidents kept me cool and happy.
