Tools for fighting obesity
Just today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. And I’ll weigh myself & use the tools and guidance from The Hacker’s Diet to help me reach (and keep) my goal.
Those of you watching closely might have noticed that I’m not exactly on track to make that 40 pounds by New Years goal. A goal that optimistic takes total focus and a level of commitment that I just don’t seem to be able to maintain this summer. And if today is an example, my focus is gone. I got up 3 times to weigh myself this morning and forgot to do it everytime. And now that I’ve my fiber supplement (with water) a cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal there probably isn’t much point to it.
But I don’t want you to think I’m beating myself up over that. The thing is, I’m learning that I need a lot of tools to win this obesity fight. Setting goals, daily weighing, walking, drinking water, posting here, monitoring and commenting at other diet/nutrition blogs, writing in my journal, reading government documents, staying busy with projects — all these things have a place in helping me to not gain that lost weight back and to eventually lose even more. And since I’ve never been successful with that specific goal, I shouldn’t expect to reach it or solve all the issues in a single year.
I had my moments of weakness yesterday but by using those tools, I kept the damage to a minimum. I can’t make myself list the things I might have eaten a year ago on a day like that. But, I’ll tell you that something mysterious happened after I posted here that kept me from going totally off the eating-deepend. I did get some ice cream at the grocery store (for medicinal purposes) but I also got a box of Kashi cereal, coffee and lemonade. So I wasn’t exactly out of control. Considering.
Have you put together a weight-control tool kit? What are the most effective tools in it? I’d really like to hear how you’ve used them on a tough day. And also how they help you through the demands of a regular day.
