A Whole New Outlook on Fiber OR How I Found the Way Out of the Bathroom

Politics and Cheese Sandwiches

A little while ago I was browsing the political blogs (I’m addicted to politics) and thinking about cheese-on-toast. We’ve got some great sliced sourdough French bread and it tastes like heaven toasted and topped with melted mozzarella. But I’ve had breakfast — so where would the cheese-on-toast fit? I’m pretty sure it would be both eating between meals AND taking seconds . . .

Then I remembered that I hadn’t taken the fiber supplement yet, so I got up and had a heaping teaspoon of fiber in a glass of water instead. **

Everyday for several months I’ve mentioned that I’m taking a fiber supplement. But I’ve never really explained it. And it’s only recently that I’ve talked about it to even family and friends. It’s not the easiest thing to talk about. But I’m committed to talking about the effects of obesity on my life. And I’m equally committed to sharing information about the changes I’ve made that are critical to my health and well-being.

But I promised you the Way Out of the Bathroom

Here’s the thing: in common with many obese people, I’ve got hemorrhoids.

Early this last summer, I went to a colorectal surgeon to ask about hemorrhoid surgery. It’s mortifying to report that my life was so diminished by the horror of bleeding hemorrhoids that I didn’t think I had any other choice but surgery. And after an examination, the doctor agreed. September 30, 2006 — Just 4 Today

30 09 2006

Just 4 Today logoJust 4 Today, I’m going to drink 2 liters of water, weigh myself, take my fiber supplement twice and walk 3 miles.

I’ll give you an update as soon as I have something to report.

What are you going to do today?

My Daily Affirmation

30 09 2006

Just today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. And I’ll weigh myself and use the tools of The Hacker’s Diet to help me reach (and keep) my goals.

Weekends are for playing

29 09 2006

Have you got plans for the weekend?

I was over at Liz’s Successful Blog and she’s got something important to say about her plans (her weekends start with a Friday activity)

2 Rules and a Bunch of Ideas

So I made this list that I check every Friday. It’s not written stone — more like it’s etched in ice. But it does remind me what to think about when Friday rolls around. It’s two rules and a bunch of ideas to focus on so that I leave work behind.

Two Rules

  • RULE 1: Weekends are recreational or recuperative.
  • RULE 2: Except in rare emergencies, all work is “want to,” not “have-to” stuff.

September 29, 2006 — Just 4 Today (and much more)

Just 4 Today logoJust 4 today, I’ll drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/3 already), walk 3 miles, take my fiber supplement twice (I’ve taken it once) and weigh myself (done!)

I’m sorry about the lack of posting yesterday. Eat4Today was down briefly in the early morning and didn’t go back up until just before I left for work. And I never had time to get back to it. (more) Read the rest of this entry »

Just4Today logoJust 4 Today, I’m going to drink 2 liters of water, weigh myself, take my fiber supplement twice, walk 3 miles.

I’ve been making incredible progress on my programming projects. But, I think that because of my responsibilities and commitments here, I won’t lose my focus or drive to lose 10 pounds by New Years.

The old me would have dropped that goal in a flash. I’d of thought, “I’ll just get back to ‘The Diet‘ later, after I finish this project.” I admit, this is another level of complexity. But I’m not going to be defeated!
