A challenging night — Halloween
Halloween is such a fun night with all the dressed up little kids coming right to your door to entertain you.
We could all turn off our lights and not deal with the temptation at all. But, we’d miss out on all the fun — and we’d be left with the entire bag — haunting us for weeks with the Halloween that didn’t happen.
But unless you’re going to be one of those dull households that passes out boxes of raisins or apples or popcorn, you’re going to have a big bowl of candy sitting next to your front door for the evening. Can you handle it?
Planning ahead makes it easier
I’ve found that the tempting events that take me by surprise are more likely to trip me up. So my first suggestion is that we spend the day visualizing ourselves handing out candy without treating ourselves at the same time. As I walk today, I’ll daydream about answering the door, exclaiming over the costumes (sometimes starting-back in shocked horror), handing out candy, putting down the bowl and leaving the candy itself alone.
I’ve actually been living with the stuff for a week or more without being particularly tempted. But, I know from experience that once the bag is open, it’s all too easy to have just this one. So tonight (and after, if there are left-overs) is the real temptation.
Is Halloween and all the candy a difficult challenge for you? How are you planning to handle the temptation?

October 31, 2006 — Just 4 Today (Just Thinking)
Just 4 Today I’ll drink my fiber supplement twice — Walk 5 miles — Drink 2 liters of water — and NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.
Up until a couple of weeks ago, I would start typing these morning promises and then JUMP UP to drink my fiber supplement — drinking 1/3 liter of water in the process.
But, for the last couple of weeks I haven’t had to do that. I’ve been drinking my fiber supplement even before pouring my coffee. And that seems like a good thing.
I forgot to pick up the yoga books yesterday. So, I’ll add that Just Today, I’ll check out 2 books on yoga.
And, I’m still thinking about Weight Watchers.
What are you thinking about today?

October 30, 2006 — Just 4 Today
Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber supplement twice (I’ve drunk it once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/3), walk 3 miles (yesterday I walked 5.5 miles!), and - of course - NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds!
What are you going to do today?
