October 23, 2006 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today, I’ll weigh myself (done. sigh.) and drink my fiber supplement twice (I’ve done it once) and drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/3) and walk 3 miles (at 10,12 &3)

And catdog — I’m NOT going to eat between meals (no snacks at all) and I’m NOT going to take seconds. Just 4 you. Just Today.

CabinGirl — my walks are dedicated to you. You’ve been an inspiration.

What are you going to do today?

Morning, Katiebird. I read yesterday’s posts and it seems to me that your sudden weight gain just could be mostly water gain, especially if you’ve been snacking on high sodium items. Unless you’ve been eating the equivalent of an overindulgent Thanksgiving daily, a weight gain like that is incredibly surprising. I’m glad to see that you’re not letting it blow you out of the water Oh no no… instead, you’ve reaffirmed your commitment and goals. You are truely an inspiration.

I’ve been thinking about setting goals. Goals are all about change. I find that I do better at staying aware of my commitment when I try to change a few small habits. It could be as simple as putting on my pants starting with the opposite leg! Or holding the hairbrush in the opposite hand. Silly as it seems, if I start my day that way, for some reason it sticks with me through the day. When it comes time to walk after a meal instead of sitting on the couch, I can do it because I know that I can even change an engrained habit. I can do this.
Today I will walk 20 minutes, and do my Yoga stretches for 15 minutes. I will not eat between meals and will prepare balanced low fat meals.

Catch you later… have a great day.

Hi! I’m sure you’ll have a similarly miraculous weight drop as soon as you get back on track, kb. And you are the inspiration around here!

Nag, I think just taking the first step is the hardest. Once you make the changes (like walking and yoga stretches) a normal part of your day, you miss then when you skip them. I know I do anyway.

I did 3 miles on Saturday, 5.6 yesterday. So, I’m hoping to squeeze in 5 more at lunchtime today (after I finish my project).

And of course, I’ll have to go near the scale later… :/

CG, you are really doing great with your walking and you also are an inspiration. You are right, the first step is all important. That’s why I’m starting slow. I so miss my Yoga practice and have been sputtering at it for months. Good habits are like that. (I also miss the News Bucket on those rare days that it doesn’t appear!) And I miss walking. I don’t measure distance because I generally walk in the woods and on rough terrain. If I’m feeling good I might scramble down a bank and explore a new stream. If I’m feeling great I might power climb up that bank and then power walk some more. Or some days I just might sit on a boulderfor a while and contemplate on nothing and feel better for it. Point is, I need to get my arse moving. And today, I’ve already done my 20 minutes… and plan on doing more later. :)

Hi Nag and CabinGirl — It’s wonderful to see such a great conversation. I’m trying to get settled for the morning so I can’t stay long. But I wanted to thank you both for your encouragement. I know you’re both right — my weight will settle down as quickly as it shot up. At least it will if I don’t get discouraged and go out for a huge lunch this afterrnoon. And I won’t since I brought a really nice sandwich from home.

CabinGirl, I didn’t do 5 miles either day this weekend. But I did do 3 miles each day. And considering it was all done with little children in tow, that’s not bad….

hugs to both of you. See you later!!
