Wow! Look what it means to be a size 12!

Stephanie at Back In Skinny Jeans, writes some good stuff about body image. But as good as she is, nothing she’s posted packs the punch of the photo she posted this morning:

Back In Skinny Jeans discusses what it means to have curves

Take a trip over to Back In Skinny Jeans to read all about it (it’s fascinating). I talk about the health aspects of weight control all the time.  This post is different.  My point in posting this photo here is that I am amazed at just how good a size 12 woman looks standing next to a size 0 one. I think my weight goals are shifting right before my eyes.

What do you think? Which would you rather be? Which would you rather hug?

  1. Hi Holly — Stephanie says that the thin one has a BMI of just over 16 which is way, way too thin for health. Seeing how different the same swimsuit looks on the two women makes the difference even more dramatic.

These are Jen Hunter, size 12, and Marianne Berglund size 0 from The British reality show “Make me a Supermodel”. I probably should have said that in the post.

  2. One thing to note, which was mentioned in the comments in this post, is that a size 12 in the UK is a size 8 in the US. Still, size 8 is thin but still healthy looking. This side by side photo of the ladies in the exact same outfit really hits the image home. I just want to feed the size 0 gal real badly.

  3. Hi Stephanie,
I probably should have put a little more information in my post. But, I didn’t really want to duplicate yours. I was just so astonished at the look of the 0 girl.

if 12 in GB is 8 here, would is a 0 in GB, -4 here?

  4. Oh, that’s okay. You can take as much as you need from me Katiebird. I know you’re cool about it ;-)

But that’s a good point. I think they are mixing up sizes. Jen looks to me like a size 8 US and Marianne a size O U.S…But you know what, I’m sure that someone will come up with the idea of negative sizes. We already have size 00.

  5. I guess I was/am so confused by the whole size thing — that’s why I stuck to the BMI reference (even though there are problems – especially for muscular people – with that) rather than talking about size.

There’s no question that a BMI of 16 ain’t good!

And, I think the best thing about blogging is the friends you meet along the way. I just wish I had as much to off you as I’ve gotten from your site! Thank you.

I just wish I had as much to offer you as I’ve gotten from your site! Thank you.

It didn’t come out right at all. (shaking my head in disgust)

  7. hee hee hee..I know what you meant. And, you should know that your support and kindness mean the world to me. I’m so glad that we can be friends and help each other, as women and bloggers. When you’re ready to do that podcast, let me know!
