November 30, 2006 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today logoJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber supplement twice (I’ve drunk it once.), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk 1/3 ), weigh myself (done), and NOT eat between meals and NOT take seconds.

What are you going to do today?

(It doesn’t have to be food related — it can be anything you’ve been slacking-off)

I dropped my walking goal for the day.  We’re supposedly getting “the worst storm ever” starting sometime this morning.  And I think it’s unlikely that I’ll try to walk if that happens.

I’m still trying to work out a solution to my bad-weather-exercise needs.  Days like today are bad enough.  But what happens if we actually get snowed in?  How do people get the exercise they need during very bad weather?

For foul weather, I have the Evil Exerbike. Now that the floors are finished, I need to bring it back inside though. And find a rug to put under it so it doesn’t scratch the pretty floor. :-P

Went out to lunch with the office gang today. We had a nice lunch, but I found my appetite amazingly diminished. Whereas in the past I would have cleaned the plate, I left about half of just about everything. I am not sure why this was, but one can’t pack on pounds with food that isn’t eaten.

I watched “The Biggest Loser” last night mostly because my sister told me she thought the people were interesting. I have only seen the show once before. I guess I missed why they were interesting, but anybody who starts weighing as much as they weighed who didn’t loose a lot of weight on that exercise regimen (I don’t know what they eat) would just about have to loose a lot of weight.

As further proof I don’t watch a lot of tv, I guess I might be one of the last people in the world who hadn’t heard of Dr. Oz and his book since I don’t see Oprah 99% of the time. While surfing today I found out that his name and diet are among the most searched-for terms on the internet. I read his diet philosophy on Oprah’s site and found it to be sensible and interesting. The key is that by cutting only 100 calories a day from what you’ve been eating that you can make a huge difference in your weight. Starving yourself really doesn’t work, except to make you sick.

He was on the show again yesterday and you can see the whole thing, if you are interested. http://www2.oprah.com/index.jhtml

One of the most interesting things was the picture of him and Oprah holding up the omentums of an overweight person and a normal weight person.

Amazing ! And something to remember. Go to Oprah’s site and check it out.

Forgot to mention, re: exercise, Dr. Oz says fidgeting and walking are two of the best ways to burn calories ! So, if you can’t walk, fidget !

FarFetched — I saw the photos of the work you’ve done on the floor. Definately put a rug down before you bring in that bike!

And I WISH we could get together in person some day to talk about our children. I have a feeling you’d understand the day I’ve had . . . .

    catdog,
I just bought a copy of “You on a diet”, by Mehmet Oz.

I didn’t realize he was a FOO (Friend of Oprah) But I like the book. I’ve been thinking about doing it as the next discussion project.

Have you thought about buying it?

Also, I think the reason the not eating between meals & not taking second thing works is because of the “100 calorie” difference thing you mentioned. It’s easier to do that if we aren’t eating all day.

Well, I’m totally pooped — this has been a VERY long day. I hope I see you tomorrow.
