Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done it once so far!), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/3), walk 3 miles (yesterday, nearly 4 all told), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.
The bad news is that some time ago I got in the habit of walking several blocks down the street to a diner/bakery for a cup of coffee and occasionally getting a treat at the bakery. It’s like my brain shuts off when I’m in there and because I like these people and it smells good, I just HAVE to buy an apple fritter. It’s insane, really. Do you know how many calories there are in an apple fritter? I just looked it up yesterday: 650.
650 calories in an apple fritter
And that is more, way more, than enough to ruin your life. So I walked 4 miles yesterday, so what? That still left 250 calories completely untouched from the fritter. And (because sometime yesterday I snapped back into focus) I also tested my blood sugar — it was high-ish for the rest of the day (160.)
Here’s the thing, I was sick for a long time with that sinus infection. And during that time stopped posting here. I think I gradually drifted into some “I’m sick I can do something enjoyable” habits. But now I’m well, I’m accountable and I’m not here to tell you about the fried pasteries I’m eating. And I’m not here to lie.
So also (just today) I’m going to work on getting my focus back.
What are you going to do today?

Hi KB
Sorry I haven’t been around for a couple of days. Had a lot of family and things going on here.
J4T I will drink 2 liters of water. I’ve pretty much have been sticking with that. Now I’m going to work on my getting out more and walking.
Hope you and everyone here are doing fine.
Hi, just found your site and thought I’d post my .02: Today, I actually dug out all my WW points trackers and books from th bottom drawer of my desk and started tracking again. Thanks for caring!
THE INHERENT TERROR OF FREEDOM
Since reaching my goal weight less than a week ago, I have gained five pounds, despite continued calorie counting based on the amount that I actually burn per day: 1650.
I am well aware of the fact that much of this weight is due to sodium. Now that I am eating more calories, I can afford larger, tastier items, many of which contain way too much salt. I also switched from diet coke to diet pepsi this week (because the store was out) and only at the end of a nasty, fat feeling day did I check the can and see that it is full of sodium! (Whereas diet coke isn’t). Too make a long story short, I LOOK a lot fatter than I did before, despite the fact that it is all water. And this annoys and terrifies me, making me want to BINGE!
BUT THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL THAT I WILL GIVE INTO THIS AFTER I’VE COME THIS FAR.
I am planning a massive salt re-assessment and will update you shortly.
For now,
1. Diet coke = God’s gift to the world, Diet Pepsi = Satanic Vitriol
2. Cambell’s Chunky Soup = PURE BLOTATION CAUSING EVIL – NOT WORTH IT DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT IS FILLING AND LOW CAL
3. Two microwave dinners in one day = BAD
Hi Mia, I love those WW journals, they make tracking what I eat fun. I don’t know why I’ve stopped doing it. I think I’ll try to find one of my old ones (I think I’ve got one somewhere that is totally blank)
Bombshell, I’m totally on your side with this salt thing and I agree with your hard-and-fast rules too.
I think that part of this thing where we learn to maintain a weightloss HAS to include making rules about foods that don’t work. Luckily mister and I BOTH agree with your 3 rules (I actually think that all sodas have too much salt for me — that’s one reason why I need 2 liters of water a day – I don’t drink soda at all.) The other two have actually been house rules for years.
The good thing is that if you get that sodium thing under control, your weight should go right back down. Don’t you think?
Hi FamilyMan, I love your visits. I hope your family was fun this time around.
SODIUM UNDER CONTROL
Weight is back down to 126 (1 lb above goal weight)…
Another observation:
A good thing to strive for would be a balanced bulky food vs dense food ratio. When I was “dieting” I ate ALL bulky foods (apples, raw veggies, rice, etc), in order to feel full.
Since being off the diet, I continued eating such foods, only a much higher volume of them (to equal 1650 calories). I thought this would be good, but its not. Your body can only handle so much bulk without looking and feeling bloated. The idea of incorporating back in foods like dried fruit and nuts is a little terrifying, but I know it will help strike a balance. The fear is that I will not be full. But I think if I get the right ratio it will be ok.
AGAIN, I SWEAR TO GOD I AM NEVER EATING CANNED SOUP. The psychological effect of being bloated is too much to bear.
Bombshell, what a relief. I’m very happy that your weight is stablizing — and I bet that last couple of pounds disappears pretty quickly.
At least as long as you continue working on it.
I’m working on the bulk food issue myself. With the complication that it isn’t quite as easy as eating lots of fruit — because of the diabetes.
It seems that cashews (while fatty) are pretty good. If I measure out an actual serving it doesn’t rock my blood sugar at all and I feel satisfied. The trick is measuring though — otherwise I could eat a whole jar without thinking about it.
We go to the Aldi grocery stores and their canned soups have much less sodium than other brands. We just use it for cooking but it’s still a worry.
Thank you so much for the update — I’m soooo glad things are a little better today!
SALT UPDATE
After a full day of eating non-salty foods my weight is fully recovered back at the goal.
KB, BTW, TY for posting my little rant when I reached my goal weight the other day, it was so great to be supported.
Also, it SUCKS that you cannot eat fruit! I didn’t realize I was so ignorant about diabetes. Fruit is my lifesaver when I have a sweet tooth!
I have a snack for you that I think you might be able to eat though. Pecan pie Larabar. Here are the nutritionas. Calories: 220. Ingredients: dates, pecans, and almonds. There are 17 grams of sugar, but it is all from the dates. Can you eat this? I really hope so. They makes some bars out of cashews, too, but I haven’t tried any of those. Maybe the cashew ones have even less sugar. The thing I like about these bars is that its a 200 calorie serving of fruit and nuts and you can’t cheat and keep eating nuts one by one.
BTW for those who can eat it, an excellent sweet tooth quencher = 1 cup frozen raspberries, sprinkled with two packets Splenda, with 1 cup vanilla soymilk on top. The milk freezes and gets all slushy and it tastes like raspberry ice cream; only 150 calories total!!!!! Plus a lot of fiber and antioxidants in the berries and protien in the soymilk.
PS KB, for what its worth, diet coke changed their formula a few years ago and it now has ZERO sodium : ) … I find that it doesn’t make me bloated at all.
Hi Bombshell, It’s not that I CAN’T eat fruit, but I have to watch the portions (it’s the same with any carbohydrate.) Also, I don’t like a lot of the fresh fruit we get here in the midwest. It’s a little cardboardy compared to the fruit that we got in California when I was a kid. I actually like fresh-raw vegetables more.
That pecan pie snack sounds good. But I’ve discovered the wisdom of my NO snacks rule. I’m just too imature or something to handle snacks. Once I give myself permission to have say a mini-meal, the next thing you know, I’m eating an apple fritter a day (luckily I never did it EVERYDAY — but I might have started). And with apple fritters having 650 calories — that’s the stupidest thing in the world for someone like me to do. Plus God knows what that was doing to my blood sugar (I wasn’t testing it afterwards.)
