March 2, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today logo Just 4 Today, take my fiber supplement twice (once so far), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/3) and weigh myself (done). And walk 3 times today for 15 minutes each time (3415!). Just today.

    Just for today I am limiting my fat, upping my fiber and working out for 50 minutes!

    I was going to take a ride on the exerbike, but after doing yard work all day I’m a little stiff. At least I got some exercise and fresh air….

    NOTES FROM THE OTHER SIDE

    Hunger Gone Haywire

    For one week after reaching my goal weight, I ate 1650 calories per day each day – the amount I burn, just by existing. It felt wonderful. I ate healthy foods and snacks throughout the day and wasn’t hungry, even once. Then came week two.

    By week two, my good old fat collecting device (aka, my body), had already “adapted” to this situation. As was said of the rabid dinosaurs of Jurassic Park, “nature ALWAYS finds a way.” 1650 calories was no longer enough, and I would find myself hungry periodically throughout the day. I ate one or two extra snacks each day, some healthy, some not. I rationalized these events by thinking – “well, I must be burning more this week – I’m working so hard.” (Not). At the end of the week I had gained two scale pounds, one moving average pound.

    My hunger system has gone haywire. On some days, I am not hungry for HOURS and on other days I find myself starving an hour after having eaten a huge meal.

    This experience has led me to wonder: If I am not slowly losing weight, am I inevitably gaining it? I desire the ever-elusive equilibrium and I am hell-bent on getting it.

    Hence, my next post will be titled:

    PERFECT EQUILIBRIUM AND HOW TO GET IT

    PS Katie – I’m glad you think my little rants are amusing and informative enough to be posts. I’d be happy to have them be posts – just say the word. Awaiting your instructions on how to make them posts.

    I hate doing this — but I could swear I’ve started replies to everyone at least 3 times and something made me turn off the computer without posting.

    FARFetched, I wish I had an excercise bike (instead of a Nordic Trac that’s just too damn big for any room in my house.) I hope it’s working out (ha, ha, ha) for you! Also, I’ve read the Health Care posts you and FamilyMan have posted. But, I’m not only behind posting comments here — I’m behind everywhere.

    In fact — I’m so far behind I don’t have time to link. But if anyone wants to read them they can click on FARFetched name and it’ll take you to his blog.
