Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (once so far), test my blood sugar at least once after every meal (I’ve done my early morning test & I’ll do it again right before I leave for work), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/3), walk 3 miles (3415!!), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.
I mentioned below, in Catching Up, that I went to Topeka to see President Clinton. The occasion was the Kansas Democratic Party’s Washington Day Weekend. Their annual organizational/fundraising/social extravaganza. So I spent most of the weekend in a hotel that was filled with hospitality rooms.
There were rooms with desserts, rooms with ice cream and rooms with buffet dinners (you wouldn’t believe the spread one of the county organizations produced — I should have taken a photo — temptation was everywhere. But somehow, I got through it with all goals pretty much intact.
Still, it threw me off — I didn’t post here; I was on my feet for hours at a time, but I didn’t really walk; I didn’t drink water (there just wasn’t much water around, except in the fountain;) and I didn’t test my blood sugar (I think the fried crab cakes might have been a little too much — but I’ll never know for sure) and I don’t think I took my fiber supplement between Friday morning and Sunday afternoon (I might have taken it Saturday evening — but it’s a blur)
Anyway — that’s all behind me now! And I’m thrilled that I’m already back in my routine.
What are you going to do today?
Out of town myself for the weekend. Spent as much time standing as possible, and walking. Stayed away from temptations mostly because the lines were too long ! And I didn’t want to spend the money. Have you noticed food at big convention-type sites tends to be pretty pricey ?
Sounds like your venue was a lot of fun, and the food was free. Amazing.
This is the conference at which I first noticed, maybe 10 years ago, that we were all getting really FAT. It came as a shock. 15-20,000 people, and so many of them with really obvious weight problems. Morbid obesity, not just a couple of extra pounds.
Then, just a little after that, I started noticing that there were an awful lot of FAT kids.
When I was in high school the Kennedy fitness thing came into being. Right now it looks like nobody ever heard of it. P.E. classes once a week, if you’re lucky. What happened to us ? I mean, besides tv, computers, everybody having cars and cell phones and text messaging ? Oh.
Hi catdog,
I noticed the same thing about the weight. I used to go to these functions all the time, but stopped 20 years ago. This is the first big gathering I’ve gone to in that time.
And the difference was huge (ha! ha!) I happen to know that I would have been among the chubby people 20 years ago (I am after all about 15 pounds officially overweight, and my current weight was at the upper end of normal for me back then) But this year, I fit right in (could it be the black velvet pants suit?)
And the whole Kennedy Fitness Awards — I remember that too. And it was a Big Deal we all took a lot of pride in meeting the requirements for the award. But I don’t remember my younger siblings ever mentioning it.
