Today at WW I verified the loss of another 0.8 lbs. This means that I am continuing on my steady half pound a week weight loss pattern. Because of medical issues, the doctor really doesn’t want my weight going down any faster than that– although I would be pretty happy myself. But, for me, too rapid weight loss can trigger pancreatitis, a very painful and even potentially deadly condition which rivals both back labor in childbirth and sciatica on my own personal “OMG !!!! Scale” of physical discomfort.
But I digress…. as previously noted, this rate of loss has been consistent since Thanksgiving last year, making my goal weight well within view at this point.
Today, for the amusement value, I decided to check my BMI against the new number on the scale. A few weeks back I realized that I am, in fact, inching closer and closer to a “normal” BMI, something I haven’t experienced in 15-20 years.
Wonder of wonders, it turns out I am 10 pounds from that particular goal !
Of course, were I excising more than I have been, more of my body mass would be muscle than it presently is, so at least theoretically, I could be my present weight and have a body fat percentage in an entirely acceptable range.
But I’m not exercising enough, so that is not the case, thus I cannot rationalize away those 10 pounds. I must get to work on that 3415 part of our daily commitment.
And stay away from the Easter candy !

Alright. Here I am, posting in order to stop myself from eating. I’m not sure if this will work. I really want to be eating, but I’m not, because I’m typing. Hopefully the insanity will pass. (I already ate dinner).
BTW, here is my salad dressing advice: Brianna’s Honey Mustard. It is made with real honey, no high fructose corn syrup, and tastes good. 75 calories per tablespoon.
Alright. Not sure if this group support thing is working, but its slowing me down. I’m sitting here eating massive amounts of lettuce and red peppers (still going above my calorie limit) but at least not eating calorie-dense food. At least I have to be slowed down to take breaks to type.
Well certainly lettuce and peppers are better than, say, another helping of fried chicken, or chocolate Easter eggs ! That salad dressing sounds pretty good. I’ll have to look for it– hope it’s available around here.
I like to keep a bag of small green apples in the frig. When I am feeling like eating something, one of those is not only good tasting, but provides fiber–AND, eating an apple takes enough time that it tends to slow me down quite effectively. By the time I get through with one, and perhaps a glass of some no calorie beverage– iced tea with Splenda works well for me– the whole “eating panic” thing is pretty well over.
Anything we can do to distract ourselves from food is usually a pretty good idea, but if that’s not possible, an apple is, for me, a good second line of defense.
Be it washing one’s hair, taking a walk, blogging, doing a crossword puzzle, or planning a precinct walk for our favorite candidate– non-food distractions are probably best.
That goes along with a good one I heard at at WW this morning– Better to prepare and prevent than to have to repair and repent !
Hi everyone! catdog, you’re doing great, it’s really encouraging that Weight Watchers is working so well for you.
I’m going to look for the Brianna’s Honey Mustard, I’m getting tired of vinegar.
Bombshell, I’m very sorry I didn’t see your post until just now. I thought I had things set up so I’d get an email when people post or make comments and I haven’t had an email all day.
I kept itching to stop by, but I’m trying to control my compulsions a little bit. So, I didn’t visit today. And I’m sorry. I’ll work on the email problem tomorrow for sure.
Catdog, it sounds like you’re definitely going about it the right way… except for the exercise thing, which I also seem to have a problem with. I was hoping that with DST coming early this year, I’d be able to start walking (or jogging) some when I got home from work. That’s happened exactly once. I did a little bike riding last weekend, but I was helping on the in-laws’ farm instead of exercising & I should have ridden at least twice as far.
Good point (Catdog & Bombshell) about snacks not being created equal. Personally, I think the ideal snack is dehydrated apple slices; they help to manage that 4pm carb craving & keep well in a desk drawer (I put them in a ziplock bag with a silica gel thing).
Hm. I need to get some more apples. Can’t wait for the local crop to come in. Maybe next year, I should buy a bushel…
Do you do the dehydrating yourself? Or do you get them from somewhere? And what’s a silica gel thing?
Hey KB, I have a dehydrator. It’s an electric one, but I’m thinking of making a solar food dryer for summer.
The silica gel thingies are those little cylinders that you might find in a jar of vitamins or pills; they absorb any stray humidity (thus keeping it dehydrated until you want it otherwise!). Those are idea, but the little packets you find in various packages do OK in a pinch.
That’s interesting. I wonder if I could just use the packages to do the dehydrating?
