Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (Done once; I’ve decided that waiting until after my walk DOESN’T work), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/2), walk 5 miles (3415 — Yesterday: 2 miles; But we spent the entire afternoon walking through an Art Gallery. Only 1/4 mile: but we were on our feet for HOURS), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.
Here’s my chart:

Still haven’t contacted him about using those tools…
Today another “box project” day at work– lots of lifting and carrying and sorting numerous boxes (probably about 100) weighing at least 25 lbs. apiece for about 3 hours. And I walked at least a couple of miles besides that today, so far. Another mile and a half or so in a few minutes…..
That neck thing is still bothering me, though, so I took a pain pill. Hoping it gets better soon.
Tonight is SiCKO !
KB… Wow. I am SO impressed by the chart you posted. I’ve NEVER lost weight at a rate of 2 pounds per week in my life! Its always been one pound or LESS! GOOD FOR YOU GIRL!
And Catdog, about your Atkins question… yes I am using a newly updated book. I’ve also done some research. There are articles in reputable scientific journals detailing studies that were done on mice. These studies validate Atkins. In the studies, three different groups of mice were fed three different diets. Each diet had the same exact number of calories, but the macronutrient ratios were varied. The mice with the highest ratio of fat and protein to carbs lost weight, the others gained weight.
Bombshell, Funny you say that. My plan WAS to lose 1 pound a week (still is, I guess.) And that 1 pound a week is the yellow line.
Catdog — How was SiCKO? I didn’t go after all.
PUSHING ATKINS TO ITS LIMITS
After discovering that Atkins made me full AND caused two pounds of weight loss, I decided to push its boundaries.
The book claims you can eat ANY of the allowed foods WHENEVER you are hungry.
During my two week weight loss period, I was eating lots of lean grilled chicken breast, lean flank steak, avocados, vegetables, and healthy fats like olive oil and cream in decaf coffee. Although I tried to eat when hungry, I was a little bit afraid of how many calories I was eating. And so I didn’t eat too many large meals or indulgent foods.
BUT THIS WEEK I tried something different. I REALLY ate whatever (allowed foods) I FELT like WHENEVER I felt like it. I decided to see how far I could go with my newly increased metabolism. This week when I was hungry I ate gooey cheese omelets, bacon, salami, and thick tasty chocolate protein shakes (all allowed foods, in allowed portions)… and guess what SURPRISE SURPRISE… I’ve gained back some weight and feel and look nasty and bloated!
SO, to make a long story short, despite my newly increased metabolism, CALORIES STILL COUNT. My body does NOT self-regulate its fullness when eating those kinds of foods.
Another interesting thing – which is happening to me RIGHT now as I type (I can feel it)… if you eat TOO many calories from protein and fat, your body will re-assemble it right back into sugar… which make your insulin spike, which will increase cravings and slow fat burning! This definitely happened today! I ate too many calories (2614) and I can actually FEEL myself switching back into glucosis. Its a crappy feeling, believe me!
SO… I am starting a new tinkering beginning tomorrow. I’m going to calorie count (1300 per day) AND count carbs. Considering how my Atkins metabolism is 2000 per day, THAT should enable me to get back to 125 and from there start slowly increasing both carbs and calories until I’ve figured out a macronutrient ration that a) matches whatever level of metabolism that in induces calorie wise and b) makes me full!
And once I figure this out, my tinkering will be DONE. With God as my witness, I will never go hungry again!
If I can get my body to feel full, then all that will be left is the psychological hunger that Catdog warned me about – which I won’t deny that it exists… but I am noticing that it is a LOT easier to deal with psycho cravings when the physical cravings no longer exist!
Bombshell. Wow. I guess that if you hadn’t done it, you’d always wonder.
It’s very brave of you to try it. Hmm. . . .
How many calories are in a gooey cheese omlet with bacon? It sounds really good. (shaking my head)
I think that the tinkering is what keeps things fresh for me. It’s frustrating. But, I know from experience that once I’m past the tinkering phase things get routine and dullish and them I’m at risk to well, just stop.
I love hearing about your experiments.
Bacon = 50 calories per slice (ate 8 slices with each meal)
Eggs = 80 calories each (ate 3 with each meal)
Cheddar = 100 calories per ounces (ate 3 with each meal)
Oil = 120 calories per tbsp (ate 1 with each meal)
Thats a total of 1060 per meal, not counting the veggies.
That would be dinner, and I’d have a shake or three (160 cals each) during the day.
I’m now bloated and fat… but it took a week of eating like this to show!
I’m either really brave or REALLY stupid!
I will update you on my next experiment. I think this next one might actually be “the one” for long-term maintenance.
Since the Atkins diet CLAIMS that you should be able to do exactly that (or that your cravings would discourage it if you shouldn’t), I think it’s an important experiement.
And it’s important to do it while you’re in experimental mode. Not in drifting out of control mode.
