September 21, 2007 — Just 4 Today (Friday!!)

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once!), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/2), walk 5 miles (yesterday — 6.94), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

As you might remember, I’m often a little nervous about weekends.  But after this — The Longest Week — I’m more than ready for the puny challenge of the next 2 days!  ALSO, I’ve figured out that if I walk 6-9 miles a day — I can pretty much eat what I want and I’ll still be in control.  And actually, what I want to eat these days just isn’t that bad.

Still, the thing to remember (I’m telling myself) is to make goals for Today — Just Today.

What are you going to do today?

  1. Have a wonderful weekend, kb! Fill it with things that nourish your heart and your soul…and make you laugh. Here’s to a productive and ‘over in no time’ TGIF.

  2. Had the most delicious salad for lunch today ! Strawberry Almond Chicken salad– never had that combination before. Ordered a small version, with iced tea. Lovely.

  3. FAR, I hope your days became calmer as it went along (I’ll stop by your place after this) Did you make anything good for lunch today?

That sounds lovely, catdog and are you back to walking or still enjoying the “new” car?

I just got back from a walk at our high school track. There’s an all night event — A Walk For Life cancer fundraiser.

We joined in by doing our normal walk among the crowd. It was great fun!

  4. KB- I’m out of town again, planning to do some serious walking tomorrow.

The only exercise I got today was a serious tour of a grocery store. This is only half a joke, we really did walk around in the store for a long time, noting all kinds of good choices for meal shopping, and actually buying a few things.

I’m back home Monday and we’ll see how it goes. Meanwhile I have access to a treadmill here, so might use it this evening…..

  5. Hey Beth. Yup, the week is over. It’s just been small annoyances all week, not like the week before vacation when I needed to get two major projects to milestones. Next week should be less annoying.

KB, I made chicken & rice soup (with a few tomatoes and a jalapeno tossed into make it interesting). You have to look for it, but there’s such a thing as canned “no salt added” chicken. Not terribly filling, but I ended up deferring a pop-tart (ate it in the afternoon instead of the morning) and that got me home.

The jalapeno made the soup a little stealthy; it didn’t bite back until after three or so spoons. Then it was kind of subtle, almost like a cat ever-so-carefully poking claws through a pants leg: “I could get you good right now… if I felt like it.”

  6. Water, must drink more water. I keep forgetting and bless this site for reminding me!

Your walk with the Night Walkers sounds like fun, kb.

  7. Hi KB and everyone.

I hope everyone has been doing well. We’re just getting over a bit of food poisoning, but things are looking up.

J4T I’ll drink 2 liters of water, and work getting things straightened again in the house. I sort of let things go while not feeling well.

    I hope everyone has a good w/e.

  8. Hi everyone. I reached my GOAL WEIGHT today! 125… on the scale.

I’m going to continue to lose for a week or two until the Hacker’s Diet Tracker ALSO registers this… and then… I will face the most scary part again:

    MAINTENANCE

    [scary music in the background]

But this time, I won’t fail, because I’ve figured out a few more tricks!!

    Maintenance trick number one:

All the foods in my house are foods that take TIME to microwave, prepare, or eat… (for example: apples and microwave hot cocoa).

There is NOTHING that you could just pop in your mouth and consume in two seconds without thinking (for example: bananas or m + m’s ). Even healthy foods that can be quickly consumed are NOT allowed in the house.

If you start eating a food like an apple, you have time to think about how full you feel. If you make microwave food, you have time to think about whether you need it or not.

If I ever want a food that doesn’t take time to fix and eat, I have to GO OUTSIDE and get it, which greatly decreases the likelihood of eating it (using my own laziness against me).

This is all working out very well.
