It’s…. FRRIIIIIIIIIIIIDAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! And I am wearing a bright yellow Hawaiian shirt. Since it’s soupy outside, it’s the brightest thing in view. I slapped a backup battery in the eMTA I have at my desk, and it can run through its test cycle over the weekend. Come Monday, I can start yanking the power cord, watch the fun, and write it all down.

J4T I’m gonna take it easy. Drink my water, take my fiber, maybe eat Chinese, do 20 minutes on the treadmill this afternoon. (The first and last things may go by the wayside if something blows up in my face, but one can always hope.)

Bombshell!! I was thinking about you just last night.

Congratulations — I’m very happy for you.

Can you share some of your secrets? I’m VERY worried about my ability to keep my weight stable (once I’m done with this weight loss part)

    Love you.

I did get in a walk of about half an hour this afternoon. Had a dentist appt. this morning, and another coming up 2 weeks from today. OH JOY !

The Mr. decided 3 of us could share a dessert at lunch today. Not such a bad idea, I guess, but it was soooo gooey and sweet ! I’m not really used to that sort of thing.

Last night I went to a reception where several people commented on my weight loss. One even noted that I didn’t look “dried out” like a lot of people who lose weight quickly. She was saying she needs to get rid of some weight, though it can’t be much, and she wanted some tips.

I told her some of my simple techniques, like standing up to do simple tasks for which one does not need to be seated, measuring food at home, and making sure whatever you eat is “plated” rather than out of a container, drinking more water, eating fruits and vegetables, avoiding sodas and fruit juices. There are dozens of little things that anyone can do which will help.

One of these days I’m going to get to my revised goal weight– which is several pounds less than my original goal. But there’s no point in rushing. Weight too quickly lost is just as quickly regained– but you knew that already, of course.

“Weight too quickly lost is just as quickly regained” I was just thinking about that during my walk. About how I used to fight plateaus, but now I sort of welcome them. Because (I think) I’m setting a new Set-Point for my weight during those plateaus.

Maybe I should make a Graphic Banner:

Eat4Today Over XXX pounds lost by site members!

    ??

    Bomb-SHELL!!! Bomb-SHELL!!! Bomb-SHELL!!!

Hey Catdog, that sounds like you have the right idea. The way I expressed it once was “my goal weight is one pound less than it is now,” then setting the next goal, and the next…. etc.

KB, I like the banner idea. You can put me down for 26. ;-)

Hi FAR, another idea would be for me to make a database of Slogans and goals and hints. And registered users could post ideas to it. And we could display the ideas/hints/pep in random rotation.

    (delayed reaction)

    26 pounds, FAR — that’s wonderful.

We’ve REALLY got to do more to brag about our successes.

I promise to come up with something.

    Hello all.

Congrats Bombshell. Hope everyone’s weekend has been going well.

Well, the weekend is ok, if you don’t count Saturday– Made the mistake of going out to an Italian restaurant last night.

While I did bring home half of the entree– salmon with lots of vegetables– I made the mistake of eating the little piece of pizza at the beginning of the meal AND ordering a dessert.

    Gotta stop that nonsense.

OK, back to the plan, and doing some treadmill time tonight as the weather was way too warm today (85!!) for outdoor stuff.

BTW, it was terrible today to hear of the death of a marathon runner in Chicago, where it was 85 with high humidity. And the weather in DC was DREADFUL for their Marine Corps Marathon. I just about froze my behind off when I did it in ‘99, and today it was 88, likewise with high humidity !

I actually passed on the Chicago Marathon in 2000 because of the COLD. I felt I couldn’t deal with another experience like the frigid Marine Corps Marathon, where the wind cut to the bone. Definitely not running shorts weather, that one.

I love this site! This is a great concept. Just for today…I will drink more water and after 8 PM.

I am also really proud of myself for facing the scale this morning, which wasn’t as bad as I thought. I also went for a long walk by the lake-a new beginning for exercise!

catdog, That is horrible about the death at the marathon. But I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often. Those things are brutal (I think) and do they screen the people who enter for health?

Is the problem with what you ate at the restaurant that you hadn’t planned on eating the dessert or the pizza?

For me weekend treats aren’t as dangerous as weekday treats. I seem to be able to contain weekend exceptions to that one weekend. Still — restaurants are dangerous enough for me that I avoid them as much as possible.

It’s good to meet you mvision. I’m a firm believer in weighing everyday — so I’m happy you did it this morning.

I took the weekend off this week, but normally I post a new Just 4 Today each morning before work. We’d love to see you again in the morning. People stop in through the day though. So whatever works for you….

    How did you find us?

KB– I wasn’t planning on either pizza or dessert. Certainly not a whole dessert to myself, in any case.

I suppose as long as it’s yesterday and it doesn’t happen again, it’s not so bad. But not again.

Today I did much better. Just need to pick up on the exercise.

As to the marathons, people are always advised to check with their doctor before getting into that sort of thing. Not everyone does, and some people are always going to discover, too late, that they have latent vulnerabilities.

Training for a marathon properly is done over time, six months or more — It’s what I call boiling a frog. First you can’t even do 3 miles, next thing you know, you’re doing 26.2

It is both harder and easier than most people think. Following the training regimine is the key. Not too much, not too fast, for your basic non-athlete beginners. Jeff Galloway’s program is what the AIDS Marathon folks use, and how I trained.

I have a half marathon coming up in December that I need to get serious about, but since I’ve done it before– last year– I know I can do it again.

Of course, my motto is “I can do anything I put my mind to.”

One of these years, I’d like to walk a marathon, but I’ll never run one.
