October 9, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once!), drink 2 liters of water (about 1/2), walk 5 miles (yesterday — 4.13), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

!! I got the results of my last blood tests and my HA1C (measures average blood sugar over 3 months) was 5.7 — which is considered the “non-diabetic” range.  I couldn’t have done it without this site and everyone here.

Also, when I picked up my 3-month prescription that it’ll take me through the rest of this year. It will be 2008 before we know it.  I’ve been making my Halloween plans — but I’ve hardly given a thought to New Years.  Have you?

What are you going to do today? What are you going to do this year?

  1. Morning KB.

Halloween for us isn’t as big a holiday as the latter ones this year. I was just saying in the cafe, my brothers and sister are already vying for who will host T’giving and X’mas. My youngest brother won out on having T’giving at his home, and we’ll have Xmas at the family farm.

J4T I’ll drink 2 liters of water and darn it wouldn’t you know it’s raining here, and I can’t do the lawn. :)

Hope everyone has a good day.

  2. 5.7? That’s GREAT!!! {{{KB}}} What’cha gonna do to celebrate?

The only thought I’ve given to winter is if & when I’ll get down to Florida to visit with the relatives, and whether The Boy gets started at tech school. Daughter Dearest’s 18th b-day is this Sunday, so that’s pretty much consuming our recreational/celebration thoughts at the moment.

But J4T I’ll drink my water and (working at home) get a couple of small manuals to draft stage.

  3. Great news ! I think one of the great things about this site is that it gives hope to people with Type II diabetes — You are living proof that it is possible to control it with diet and exercise.

So many people give up when diagnosed, thinking that it’s just too hard.

The fact is, many if not most people with Type II can beat it back. I am looking for some leadership on that issue, maybe from some politician, I don’t know– maybe like Mike Huckabee, who reversed his Type II with some serious effort ? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2004/08/10/AR2005033110213_pf.html

If I were the next president, I would appoint him to lead a national effort to deal with diabetes– I think he could do it well.

  4. Congratulations, KB!

I’m not thinking very far ahead these days, although I did buy some Halloween candy that was on sale. As to New Years, too soon for us to think about.

  5. I guess the Halloween thing IS confusing….

We are usually the sort to shut the lights off and pretend we’re not home.

BUT, about 15 years ago I bought a Student Nurse uniform at a junk sale — it has a blood bib and everything.

AND I had a vision of us setting up a MASH tent in the front yard, putting one of the kids on a table and me pulling candy out of his gut.

Then someone up the street set out a broken pop-up canopy and mister and our boy got it going.

Now we’ve just got to find some yellow lights and fake blood and we’ll be good to go.

  6. Hi kb! Congrats on the great numbers!! I’ll be in Key West for Halloween, getting ready for the annual Parrothead convention, Meeting of the Minds. Four days of parties and concerts. I missed it last year, leaving the day everyone was arriving, and I swore not to miss it this year. Halloween in KW is interesting, to say the least…sometimes you can’t figure which folks are in costume and which ones always dress that way…

  7. What parrothead ? We’ve got the real thing, right outside my office. There’s a park with palm trees, pink orchid trees, eucalyptus, coral trees–

Anyhow, a flock of the famous Los Angeles green parrots are out there all the time carrying on. For real.

    /ducking and running off…..
