October 25, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday – 2.22), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

After sleeping in (Thank WebMage for that) I’m posting and running.

What are you going to do today?

    Morning, Kb-

5 miles! Go for it. Sign me up for 30 minutes before I head into busy day. :)

In the first rain in months, bok choy clung to my feet as I picked okra in the garden this morning. The choy joined onions, mushrooms, garlic, and snow peas from this Spring with three organic eggs for breakfast. Nearly two inches of rain and not a puddle in sight. All is consumed. The dry bed creek at the back of my property is dry, even with the rain. I head tonight to the sacrificial alter of peer-review with three other local writers. I will eat chicken. That’s what this host always serves, and I will know that it was a good chicken, a noble chicken, and a tasty chicken.

Lovely in San Francisco yesterday afternoon, and I really did get to do some walking. It was great after all these days of enforced lack of exercise due to the smoke from all the fires. Must say the smoke is as bad, if not worse, than ever. Don’t know what that means, but it is thick out there today !

Also took some of the waiting time at the airport this a.m. to walk up and down into new parts of the Oakland Airport I hadn’t seen before.

As for Los Angeles, I can feel my heart pounding from walking across the street to lunch today in this soup they are calling air. I don’t even want to know the pollution numbers. Nothing to be done for it.

Hope things are good wherever you are, mes amis.

Sheesh, am I late to the party or what? So far, J4T I have already:

…got a flu shot today (compliments of my employer, who will come out ahead if two employees who would have caught the flu this year don’t… smart move!)

    …took my fiber

…drank close to 2L, probably will chug 3 before bedtime

…wrote a couple hundred words at lunch, part of the “Crash and Burn” adaptation; ran out of steam in mid-sentence but figured out something important

What’s left? I need to get in some form of exercise tonight, and work on an entirely different writing project.

I had forgotten ! When I used to work for the LA Times a million years ago, they used to send a nurse around to the offices and give us flu shots. Ah the paternalistic good ole days, before the (I was going to say “inbred”) relatives got ahold of what used to be a really good newspaper and sold it to the devil.

    Other than that ?

I’m not even trying to write much of anything before November 1 rolls around. Just letting it all get pent up so it will spill out onto the page when NaNoWriMo starts….

Hi everyone. I decided this morning that I’m not going to spend any money during the day ANY MORE. This kept me out of the coffee shop and staff room.

I haven’t been getting anything other than coffee — but I hate wasting the money.

kimberly, I didn’t make my five miles and I’ve got to go to a Tupperware party in a couple of minutes. So, I probably won’t.

    How about you?

Hi rick, it sounds like you’ve got a pretty good garden. With so little rain, does it need a lot of attention — watering?

catdog, I’m glad you got to get out of the smoke for a day. And in San Francisco! That’s grand. Do masks work against smoke?

    I didn’t know you’re a journalist.

FAR, I’m always impressed at all the projects you manage. You’ve always got a list and (it seems) like you do a great job of keeping up with your goals.

Maybe I should get more ambitious about my Just 4 Today goals??

Hi KB. I walked today but probably didn’t drink enough water. After a rainy start we had quite a nice day. Hope yours was okay.

Well, the exercise never happened. :-(

And if I keep surfing, I won’t get to that other project that I need to wrap up in a week or two. (The “Crash and Burn” project is something else, and I’ll devote odd moments to it until I crack down and finish.)

Boran, I’m in the same boat — I didn’t even get an after dinner walk because of that party. Still — I had a good time with mister’s family.

FAR, I like to think that if people are surfing, it’s because they’re learning something they need to know. I think you should keep going!

KB– Bit of a stretch to call what I did for the LA Times journalism, but no matter, they gave us the flu shots free, which was nice– especially because we didn’t have to go to a clinic or anything. The publisher, Otis Chandler, also gave us free lunch in the cafeteria when we worked holidays. They would run a tape, and at the end of the day whatever it came to, he wrote a check.

In those days, we had a holiday party where there were wait staff in tuxes carrying around trays of hors d’oevres and bottomless glasses of champagne after a concert in the upstairs auditorium. Memories…. !

But not so good for your figure.
