November 5, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday – 3.2), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

Do you work in the sort of office where after Halloween nearly every desk has a candy jar:  with candy in it?  I do.

Last year, those jars were nearly the death of my goals and affirmations.  I can still remember catdog urging my resistance.  Which sometimes worked and frequently didn’t.  But between us (all of us) we keep the dialog open.  Even on the bad days.

As we go into the holiday Eating Season (was it FARfetched who calls it that?) let’s share our tricks for staying in control.

What are you going to do today?

    Good morning KB.

I have it much easier than ya’ll on the post halloween treats. Since I’m retired and stay home, no office temptations. Since I didn’t participate in trick or treating, no candy here at home. However, I’m still having a hell of a time with cinnamon rolls a local store carries, and I’m beginning to be able to tell it.

    Keep up that resistance.

The people putting candy in bowls are trying to get rid of it themselves! And yup, I call it Eating Season: Hallowe’en to New Year’s.

My first T’giving lunch is Thursday, put on by work. I’m seriously considering making some veggie crockpot chili and setting it on one of the tables. ;-)

Lack of exercise is starting to catch up to me. I spent a lot of yesterday afternoon outside, but hacking on plants, even indestructible ones, isn’t really exercise. So… J4T I’ll drink my water (1/4 of the way there) and get a walk in. If I can get my sister-in-law to take the Evil Exerbike (it’s hers), I’ll get a treadmill.

Ah the joys and sorrows of working out of a home office. If I or my wife don’t feed my weaknesses, they don’t get fed. Alas, this year I have one bag of M&Ms to eat and nothing else. Probably just as well as I slip into another mumu to sit down and write. The garden is basically done. Ripped up the last of the okra, basil, peppers, and tomatoes. The winter garden and what has been frozen will have to suffice until snow peas in late April. Must get ready to feel trees and cut firewood. The fun never ends, and the writing is calling. Hear it. I must go.

Rick doesn’t feeling trees give you splinters? I hope you can write with sore fingers :-)

I’ll be covering the pepper beds tomorrow & Wednesday nights – we’re supposed to have two nights of near-freezing temps, then another week of not-freezing, so maybe I can keep them going just long enough to get those last fruits. And one last batch of pesto. But we’ll miss the latest-frost record by 9 days, from the looks of it.

A 2-hour spec review is about to suck at my soul. I have fortified myself with coffee and will escape to my own worlds of fancy when nobody is looking….

Hi, KB. Although my office has cut down, there is still too many temptations. But I’d rather have my one piece of candy and be done with it rather than spend too much time thinking about it. So each day I promise myself one piece, and stick to that most of the time.

HI all- Back from visiting out of state. Did ok, not great. Got in a couple of 3 mile walks. I did not weigh myself every day like I normally do because I didn’t go downstairs where the scale is. How’s that for a dumb excuse ?

In any case, I came back at the same weight I left at, so guess it didn’t matter that much. Still, not good since I always weigh if there’s a scale where I am.

Re: candy/Halloween. I helped the grandling make treats for her class. A little taste of white chocolate was enough, and a couple of cookies. I wrapped up the rest of the stuff for her class and sent her off with it.

The folks in the office are mostly all either on WW or should be, so there was no candy in the office this year.

There’s one desk where some pistachios are kept and that sort of thing, but I don’t go there very often. Once or twice a week, maybe.

I think that, as an office, if you can, to make that decision to keep the crap out is the best for everybody. This office just recently got to that point– and I’ve been here almost 8 years !

Of course, if you’re home, the only alternative is not to bring it in at all. Easier said than done, eh ?
