November 14, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 3 miles (yesterday 1.64), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

I thought all night about catdog’s comment from yesterday. Thinking about plateaus:  I think they come from when our metabolism needs to catch up to the changes.  Diet & Exercise & body-weight affects our bodies in many, many ways.  And (I think) that our bodies are pretty adaptable.  But, at some point our systems need to catch up to the changes.  And that’s when we hit plateaus.

Sure, we could push past them.  We know we could step-up the exercise or drop a couple-hundred calories a day.  But is that the best thing to do?  Maybe something inside us is saying:  “Hold-on! I’ve got to catch Up!

What are you going to do today?

Hey KB, you know I would definitely agree with that — maybe it’s time to bring back the “Embrace Your Plateau” graphic? And like you & Catdog, I would be happy to drop another 10 or 15 lbs, but I’m also content with where I am right now, for right now.

J4T I’ll drink my water, take my fiber, and get a walk in.

For Eating Season, I’ll fill up on salads and exercise some control over meat & dessert portions. I’m not going to try to lose weight in the next couple of months, but I will try to stay on the plateau. Part of my strategy involves cooking my own lunches more often. Ideally, I’ll eat out once a week & bring in leftovers once. Since I work at home once a week, that means eating my own cooking twice a week. :-)

I’m really cutting back on red meat and increasing salads and other kinds of fiber. Also trying to increase the calcium intake– which research seems to indicate is important to weight loss.

I will feel that I’ve really accomplished something if I don’t gain over the next few months, but I’ve got to say the early darkness at night is really messing with me this year. I just don’t want to do anything when I get home but get ready for bed !

    Hi katieb, FAR, catdog.

I love the thought of this: Maybe something inside us is saying: “Hold-on! I’ve got to catch Up!”

    … Resonates!

    (smile) Hi everyone!

Catdog, I’m NOT giving up my meat. Wait, we don’t eat that much red meat. Still, I’m not giving up what I DO eat. :)

FAR, I thought I had an embrace your plateau image too. But, I looked all over and all I could find was it in that cursive font. I’ll have to make one. Because I think it’s an important topic.

    {{Olivia!}} Thank you!

Boran! — That sounds like you’re maintaining your weight: something a lot of us want to learn more about.

Not giving up the meat entirely, but you should see the size of the steaks and chops the mister buys !

A serving, per WW, is about the size of a deck of cards. By that measure, there are about 4 servings each in the steaks that were on the table Monday night. If I ate a whole one, the rule about taking seconds would be meaningless.

Ahhh, I get it now! That’s a whole different thing. My mister discovered the joy of portion control about 6 months ago. And it’s been VERY relaxing since then.

When he buys meat now, he measures it into 3-4 oz portions sticks the portions in a baggie and freezes them. So when it’s time to make a meal he just pulls out however many portions we need for that night.

And I don’t have to guess anymore!!

I guess I could get the guy at the meat counter to cut me some 4oz portions of roast beast for the crockpot. Freeze what I’m not using, then drop a frozen hunk of meat in the crock at the end of the day with veggies to suit & let it cook on low overnight.
