December 21, 2007 — Just 4 Today

Just 4 Today I'llJust 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday — impossible I was totally wiped after the mammogram), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

I feel like today really IS the first day of the rest of my life. I’ve got a sister-in-law who’s acting like a pill while pretending to act like a saint. I’m getting tired of being generous about it. Since I’m NOT actually feeling generous about it the rest of the family is suffering as much as me (I’ll let you untangle that sentence on your own.) I could confront them (S-I-L & brother) but I can’t help thinking that it’s time for them to grow up. Sure, I’m the “Oldest Kid” but they’re grown adults — in their 40’s or nearly so.

One of my all time favorite movie lines is from Overboard when Katherine Helmond tells Goldie, “But darling, if you have a baby, you won’t be the baby anymore.”  Starting today, I’m going to let go of responsibility for things I can’t change.  And I’m not going to baby people with babies anymore.

What are you going to do today?

    Yay kb! That’s a GREAT promise to make to yourself. At some point we have to let people be responsible for themselves. Although I know it’s really hard to let go. And they’ll fight you at first because it’s so much easier to let YOU do it. Be strong, and you’ll enjoy the freedom that comes with it. Each time you say to yourself, no thanks, that’s not my problem, it gets easier. (From One Who’s Been There)

    Welcome to the Rest of Your Life!

    (And that’s my sister’s favorite movie, and definitely one of mine!)

    Woof, sounds like you’ve replaced your problem child with a problem sibling. Now if I could only do that… you see, my sibs are 500 and 1000 miles away, respectively.

    Hope it gets better. I know it’s tough. {{{KB}}}

    Hi kb. In our family we’ve got a whole cast of characters that require coddling. This is apparently a universal condition. Good luck with yours.

    Thank you so much! I guess FAR’s right. I’ve traded one problem for another. Or I had until I dumped this latest drama. Honestly, if you love your children, don’t let them grow up to be oldest-children!
