What is it about Thursday night in Kansas City?

The really good stuff isn’t anywhere near us, but the area has been ringed by tornadoes — the guys in the weather helicopter got some beautiful shots of 4 (four!) tornadoes on the western edge of the city. One of them hit a power line and the flash was spectacular. But other than that no damage.

Nothing like what happened to those poor children in Iowa.

I know that tornadoes in Kansas always get a lot of attention (I wonder why?) and some of you worry about me. And while I love you for that — I don’t want you to worry tonight. We’re getting lots of rain but, the worst is past.

It’s amazing how this always seems to happen on Thursday nights. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had to watch LOST at 1 in the morning because of the weather delays. And we couldn’t take a walk tonight. Here we are walking last night:

  1. You’re our own “Dorthy”. Please stay safe.

I love the picture of you walking last night…I wish I knew how to post pictures – it would be fun to see everyones “walk” for the the day.

If you know how to tell me what to do to post a picture, I would love it!

  2. I’ll see if I can find a way. They list the allowed tags right above this box — but that isn’t necessarily policy. This WordPress has a lot of limitations (no programming code is allowed for example)

One idea would be for people to mail me photos and I could post them. Another idea is that if you create a photobucket or other photohosting account you could upload the photo and post a LINK here (see the a href code above this box)

I’ll check out the help files and see if images can be displayed in comments…

  3. This was supposed to be an image — but WordPress striped it right out.

So I think the best way would be to get the photobucket account and post links to photos there.

I could make a tutorial. But, it’s really, really easy.

  4. Hey there KB, thanks for cross-linking my post. Not the kind I usually want to be writing, but these are exceptional circumstances. It’s good to hear you’re dodging those twisters, let’s hope that continues.

Love the photo, especially catching you w/the camera, lol. Were you and Mr. also walking a dog? Looks like the shadow of a leash on his side.

I hope WordPress doesn’t eat this comment… I have lots of problems commenting on WP sites. I think it hates people w/blogger addresses! LOL

  5. {{IVG}} Thanks for coming over (did you see Manny? He was JUST in the Grand Opening Thread) Aren’t those avitars cute? I wonder if you’ll always get the cow, of if it changes?

I think the rain is gone for the night. At least the lightning has (it flashed just as I typed that, so who knows?)

Yes, we were walking our son’s dog who is living with us for longer and longer stretches. I wish I could have gotten his little shadow but that wasn’t to be.

  6. Hi KB! Guess I’ll have to go look for Manny … I’ve been absolutely delighted that he has been coming by my place more recently of late. He’s probably the #1 of all the people I met through BT, along with Olivia, Dada and Knucklehead and so many others I miss, but I just can’t view that place the same anymore, so I stay away.

Yay! We were dry (but tense) on Friday and I had a hellish day of work here, but fortunately no rain, though a couple of levees breached both downtown and the near NE Side causing some real problems. Like I said in my post last night at my place, I’m really much more concerned about the people in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, where the worst is yet to come, and it’s already catastrophic. I’m very fond of that area because I went to Cornell College (just 16 miles up the road from IC) and spent a lot of my college years in those cities. It’s really heartbreaking to see areas and places I’ve been totally underwater …

On a happier note… what kind of dog does your son have? I’m hedging my bets and saying Dachshund or Brussells Griffon … probably way out in left field there!

  7. IVG, Nick has a Yorkshire Terrier. Buddy was originally our oldest boy’s dog but, when he moved to Florida he couldn’t take the dog. And by the time he was settled Nick had fallen in love and wouldn’t give him up. I guess even pet relationships can be complicated.

My Aunt Hazel lived in Fort Madison, IA all her life so we used to drive the length of the state on our visits to her. And for the last 20 years or so we’ve been spending a couple of nights a year at Clear Lake on our way to Duluth, MN in August. I don’t think any of those places are directly affected by the floods.

But, I think you feel closer to the situation because of connections like those (and my friendship with you) than those where you have no connections at all.

I’m very interested in your BT remark my email address is katiebird@gmail.com if you’d be willing to talk about it more in a less public way I would like to talk.

  8. (nodding) I was wondering if the icon’s would ‘stick’ once they’re assigned. I guess they do.

You could make a small change to your username, I guess — to see if that would generate a new icon.

Or maybe having Iowa in your name would always get you the cow….

  9. LOL, KB! For Iowa I’d guess it would more likely be a pig, so I guess I should count my blessings, eh? I’ve always felt sorry for that girl where I was growing up whose name was Ima Hogg. That’s just cruel! (But Rosey Butts, wasn’t much better either!)

I’ll email you either tonight or sometime tomorrow when I’ve hopefully vanquished more weeds out in the front boulder bed! Yeah, I’m a bitter defector, but at least not alone.
