June 17, 2008 — Just 4 Today

Just today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. And I’ll weigh myself and use Nutribase and the tools of The Hacker’s Diet to help me reach (and keep) my goals.

And Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 2 miles (which I did yesterday), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

This is the sort of morning we usually have in May – not June.  The temperature’s on the cool side and there’s no humidity at all.  It would be a perfect time for patio blogging.  But, I really do have to get ready for work.

I’ll be doing my 3415 routine again today — it worked like a charm yesterday! So once again, Just Today I’ll take a short walk around the block (it’s a city block) at 10 and 12 and 3 (ish)

What are you going to do today?

Just4Today I will drink 4 glasses of water.
Just4Today I will walk on my treadmill for a total of 25 minutes broken up as necessary by any strain on my knees.
    Just4Today I will NOT eat anything after 6 p.m.

Just for today I will include more veggies and less pasta and cheese in my meals. I may be a vegetarian but that doesn’t mean you lose weight if you shovel in the pasta loaded with butter and cheese. And I did. But Just4Today, I won’t.

Just4Today I will stand tall and proud with my two missing front teeth and my fat little body and look the world in the eye and say, “bite me”. Cause I’m here and I’m me and I matter and what I look like doesn’t have a damn thing to do with any of that. Just4Today, I will try to believe what I just wrote.

{{Marge}} I know about the temptations of being a vegetarian. I would be eating cheese from morning ’till night.

I was thinking about your teeth. Have you checked with a Dental College to see if they have a program that could help? Or Dentists?

    Katiebird,

We don’t have a dental college near by. The Dentists that I have checked with want between $2500 and $3000 dollars to fix the teeth. At this time that’s totally out of the question. It’s a big problem for me because I am so very self-conscious about it.

I had saved almost enough money when a wind came through and blew half the shingles off my roof. It cost a lot to fix the roof and the insurance only paid half. See insurance companies operate under the plan that you pay in and then you fight them to the death to get them to pay out. Quite the racket they’ve got going for them. Much safer than robbing people with a knife or a gun.

I’ve started saving again and will get it done when I have enough money. I’ll survive. I’ve survived worse. Just gets to me sometimes.

Marge, I’m thinking some insurance company executives suddenly experience their own private “accidental” disasters might straighten them out. And why did I find your self-description interesting? I guess I’m just a strange ol’ perv.

J4T, I’ll drink my water, take my fiber, and get a walk in (got the shoes so got no excuse!). And I’ll get signed up tonight, KB!

BTW, KB, you can always patio-blog in the evening, right?

{{Marge}} “I’ll survive. I’ve survived worse. Just gets to me sometimes.”

That seems like a pretty good summary of an American Life. Totally not fair but, it rings true.

FAR, I could patio-blog in the evening, but there isn’t that much time after dinner and before dark. When I patio-blog it’s an all-day affair.

I need to check and see if I can see the new Mac screen outside, and I could patio-blog – well, except for the lack of a wireless router, since neither Far nor his Norwegian friend has shown up on my doorstep to install it. :-) I’m trying to hack off the poundage I’ve gained over the last few months, but I hurt my back weeding this weekend AND my blood pressure seems to be doing funky things, so right now I’m shoveling in peanut butter in the hope of – feeling better, I guess. Better than chocolate! Enjoy your day, everyone!

    I. Am. Sore. The past few weeks have been bad for me exercise- and nutrition-wise. Too many family parties, graduations, etc etc etc (all invalid excuses, of course); but I did 30 minutes of high impact cardio last night and….oh, my. So, just for today, I will drink at least 2 liters of water, make each meal a conscious act where I assess and am aware of its nutritional content, and not eat any snacks in between. I’ll also force myself to do Day 2 of the workout routine I acquired from a friend. Stay tuned to see if I can walk tomorrow ;)

    Hi KB.

I’ve had a rough day today. I was up most of the night with FMom because of asthma, so I’ve been trying to sleep and wait on FMom most of the day. I can see now I’ll be up most of the night from trying to sleep today. Luckily FMom is doing better now.

J4T I’ll try and get down 2 liters of water and I’ll try to get to sleep tonight.

Marge, I sort of know exactly what you’re going through. About three months ago a bad storm came through and blew shingles and siding off the house. The insurance man came by and inspected and said we needed a new roof. What they gave us will put maybe half a roof on. I’m also in the same boat as you with teeth. The only thing that sort of saves me is I have a big bushy mustache that most of the time covers the missing teeth. I hope things work out for you soon.

FamilyMan, I’m so sorry about your rough night. My mother has suffered from asthma my entire life so I know how stressful it is when a parent has a bad attack. Does she have a breathing machine for “treatments” at home? They’ve made a huge difference in my mom’s health.

Have you got a good book to read if you have trouble sleeping tonight?

You have a Big Mustache? Really? I LOVE men with mustaches. Mister’s got one too.

Beth and Manny, I’ve got to do the unthinkable and make this one reply for both of you because I’ve blown away TWO comments without getting them posted and I just can’t risk that happening again.

Manny, I’m so sorry you’re stiff. But, I want to hear all about your workout routine. As you might know, I’m looking for new hobbies.

Beth, I don’t have ANY idea what happened to the particularly moving comment I wrote to you. But, it’s lost someplace safe, I’m sure. How about couch-blogging on my TARDIS for now and patio blogging this weekend?

    Family101man,

Thanks for sharing my misery with Insurance Co. There are a whole lot of people in our particular boat and it’s riding mighty low in the water.

About the teeth, much as I am very self conscious about my missing teeth I don’t think I’ll try your solution. A big bushy mustache might not the best way to rid myself of being self conscious about my mouth. Now if I just keep my mouth shut, nobody knows. But that’s not much fun. And not always possible.

I had thought about one of those veil like the belly dancers wear but since I got more belly than dance, maybe not so much.

Marge, you’re making me laugh! No one does that before I’ve had coffee!
