Just 4 Today — My first retirement Monday

30 06 2008

Just today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. And I’ll weigh myself and use Nutribase and the tools of The Hacker’s Diet to help me reach (and keep) my goals.

And Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 2 miles (which I did yesterday), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

My pre-retirement-frazzle kept me from posting much last week.  I had some sort of brain-lock and kept thinking, “Oh, just wait ’till this bit is behind you.  Then start fresh.”  Well, it can’t be any fresher than the First Monday….

I have had my fiber supplement and breakfast and brushed my teeth (you just had to know that, didn’t you?) I’ve got phone calls to make regarding a doctors appointment today and health insurance questions.  And I’m trying to sort papers so that anything related to my old job doesn’t haunt me in my new life….

ANY suggestions for getting organized for a life style that’s totally new to me would be appreciated.  My greatest fear is that I’ll fall into the habit of reading all day.  For a sloth like me that would be all to easy.

What are you going to do today?

Good morning KB.

Congrats again on the retirement. I don’t have any suggestions as of yet. Most would say now is the time to really get into your hobbies. I’ve never been that much of a hobby person, so I wouldn’t know about that. I guess the biggest thing though is not to let yourself get bored.

J4T I’ll drink 2 liters of water and I’m not really sure what I’ll be doing today. The rels that said they would be here last week, now say they’ll be here today. I think they’re bringing some of their grandchildren with them, so there should be more than enough excitement around here.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

KB,

Congrats on the retirement. I also wanted to thank you for turning me on to the Hacker’s Diet. What a find!

I understand your concern about fearing staying home and reading all day. I’m not retired, but as a teacher, I do have summers off, and it is challenging. I have days, like yesterday, where I spend all day online, or reading books. I’m not even really interested in TV. What I try to do is schedule something reasonably early several times a week, like I have to pull weeds at 9:30 or something. I try to get out every day, even if it’s just for a walk. And I live near a pool, so I’ll often take a short swim early just because it gets me motivated around the house. That’s been helping me so far this summer. Hope that helps.

Anna Belle, Those are really good ideas. And I think easily added to my “Just 4 Today” plan…
