Just 4 Today, Degaussing my brain

4 07 2008

Just today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds. And I’ll weigh myself and use Nutribase and the tools of The Hacker’s Diet to help me reach (and keep) my goals.

And Just 4 Today, I’ll drink my fiber twice (done once), drink 2 liters of water (I’ve drunk about 1/2 liter), walk 5 miles (yesterday, 5), NOT eat between meals & NOT take seconds.

To no one’s surprise but mine, this has been a very confused week. I’ve been very, very sleepy — to the point where I can hardly make myself do anything (although I have been taking regular walks.) And the week has flown by faster than I could have imagined. You’d think I’d be bored with time-dragging since I’ve got so little to show for myself….

Yesterday, I defied mister (who has heard about my regular walks but, never actually witnessed how it works) to actually take my 3 walks (not just one long one with him.) That last one was wonderful.  I felt like I was degaussing my brain.  As I walked all the random splotches and odd colors were sorted out.  The patterns were normalized.  And I could think clearly again.

So that’s my biggest plan for this holiday.  Sure, there will be plenty of patio blogging, hamburgers and baked french fries.  From this Independence Day forward:  I will walk alone (at least once a day.)

Just back from my first walk — 2 miles! Bizarrely, not too much time for degaussing. First my sister called me 3 times. Then mister joined us (dog, Buddy and me)

It was a regular chat fest! I’m going to have to sneak off after lunch for a silent walk… (and accidentally leave the cell phone behind)

Hi again KB.

I have had a very bad week and am just taking a time out today. I will drink my water and I will not eat after 6 but that’s about as far as my will power will take me for today.

I stepped off a curb yesterday and turned my ankle so my treadmill is my official flag-holder for today and hopefully by tomorrow I will be able to walk at least a little. I need to walk because if I don’t exercise I do not lose weight. I can nearly starve myself and the fat just sits there going “ynah, ynah”.

Sometimes like conspires against us and sometimes it just sucks. And sometimes it’s absolutely wonderful so I’ll try to hang on in this sucky time and wait for the wonderful.

Confession: I am a closet optimist. If I can’t believe that things will get better, in the long run, I tend to sit in a corner like a potted plant. Viva Optimism!

Hi KB and Marge.

Marge I’m sorry to hear that you twisted your ankle. I hope it mends very fast for you so you can get back on your routine.

J4T I’ll drink two liters of water and I’ll keep cleaning the house since rels are here, and if I don’t it turns into a garbage dump very fast.

Hope everyone has a great 4th.

{{Marge}} I’m so sorry! Please take it easy on that foot. We were just saying that you can’t “walk-off” foot pain. All you can do is baby it. Keep it up as much as possible and pack it in ice as much as you can.

I’m very, very sorry.

{{FamilyMan}} You’re the greatest!

Thanks for the concern folks. It’s not a sprain. I just twisted it a bit. It will be fine in a day or two.

I am missing out on a lot of weeding in the garden which I feel really, really bad about ;) Significant other is stuck with it but has a new electric roto tiller to play with so he doesn’t mind much. Also I got him one of the twist weeder thingys for father’s day and he loves that too. Meanwhile I have spent the day blogging, reading and watching the “Revolution” on the history channel. That requires me to lay back in my recliner with foot up so the swelling is almost gone and it feels a lot better tonight than it did this morning.

Talk to ya’ll tomorrow.

Degaussing your brain. I love the imagery that calls to mind.

My version of that was going out picking blackberries today. I got three gallons, an awesome collection of dings & scratches (the thorns this year are longer than they’ve ever been), fresh air, sunshine, light exercise, and maybe I sweated out a bunch of physical and mental garbage that’s been collecting for a while.

Marge, take care of your ankle! I had a near-miss while out picking… fortunate, because I was alone and a mile from any help. Hope you’re up & walking with us soon. We’ve got a “Mantis,” a really lightweight tiller with a chainsaw engine. It digs in really good if you let it roll forward then pull back slowly. When the roots get wrapped up in the tines, it’s easy to hang in a tree & clean out.

Visitors! While I was out! While I was out picking blueberries! Well, NOT picking blueberries. Actually we BOUGHT blueberries. But we PLANNED to pick blueberries. Which should count for something, shouldn’t it?

{{Colorado}} I actually was just realizing how long it’s been since we talked. Thank you for stopping by. My sister Julie and her daughter are here visiting and we drove past 99th street. So….. well, you know.

I’m still practicing the retirement thing. I’ve decided to say I’m “On Vacation” for a while…..

{{FAR}} — I stopped by your place yesterday but didn’t comment. I’ve GOT to start speaking up. It does no good at all to visit if I don’t SAY anything.

I was at my folks house this afternoon and my dad filled me with wonderful stories about the power of sardines. So expect something interesting soon.
