Wednesday, Deciding what to do and when to do it

WALK

I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds AND I’m going to walk at least 3 miles, take my fiber supplement & drink two liters of water.

Getting this blog going again has been a wildly successful experience – at least so far.  I’ve gone from just idly thinking about things I should do to actually doing them.  Yesterday I was busy from 6am when I got up to do the post until 11pm when I realized I was crazy to keep editing webpages and should go to bed.

It seems like there is an endless amount of stuff to do. And I feel really good about all the stuff I got done yesterday.

But, the day was a failure in a way:  I didn’t manage to fit in my walk. And I didn’t fit in time to check in here (I suspect a connection between those facts.) Maybe it’s not a big deal that life pushed my personal goals out of the way — just once.  But, it IS a big deal if I let that happen too often.

The thing is, walking 3+ miles doesn’t HAVE to mean slicing a whole hour out of your day.  It can be done (if you walk briskly) by walking 3 times for 15 minutes each time.

And THAT’s how I’m going to do it today.  3 Walks/15 minutes.

How about you?

  1. Do you walk that many miles every day?  Hope you get a day or two of recovery time :-) .

I haven’t exercised for a while, after injuring myself by using only the stairs on a four day cruise.  We do not have stairs, and live in a very flat place, so I just wasn’t ready for it.

But I think I might be ready to start exercising again.  Oh, and a new yoga DVD came in the mail yesterday.  Here, I’ll go open it…(I’d actually forgotten what else I’d ordered, besides a book, and didn’t feel well enough to rip open the package)…ah, Yoga Shakti!  My daughter recommended it.  It’s funny – the first thing it discusses on the back is “pranashakti,” or breath, and that is my screen name at Calorie Count (PranaShakti, not Breath ;-J).  Can’t wait to try it out!

  2. Hi Alex, Actually when the weather is better & I can walk out my door & just keep going, I TRY to walk between 6 & 9 miles.  When I walk six miles or more I sleep like a rock and as I get close to 9 miles/day, weight falls right off.

This has been a bad year though (2009-now) :: we’ve had so much rain/snow that it’s been hard to keep to a routine.

We made arrangements last March to have a tree trimmed & the tree guy said we’d have to have 4 days without rain so he could put the heavy equipment on our lawn without tearing it up.  That didn’t happen until August!  And it seems it was pure luck when it happened then.

That’s why I’m trying to find ways to sneak walking in.  Marching around malls and stores seems like the cheapest solution.

I think I will go to the library to see what sort of Yoga stuff they’ve got.
