Thinking about Food

just4today5So I woke up thinking about food. And how powerful I was when I did my Just 4 Today posts:

Just 4 Today, I’ll walk 3 miles, I won’t eat between meals, I won’t take seconds and I will drink 2 liters of water.

What I don’t know is if it was making the promise that was powerful or that I stuck to it.

So, here’s a test Just 4 Today, I’ll do all that stuff.

What about you?

Friday – Affirmations and Goals

Just 4 Today, I’m not going to eat between meals and I’m not going to take seconds.  I will walk 3 miles, drink 2 liters of water and take my fiber supplement.

This post starts with an affirmation.

Drifting is all to easy for me.  I’ve lost whole decades without making progress on my goals. That’s sad but, the lesson I learned from the experience is powerful: Wake up this morning and do something.  Right now (I told myself), decide what it is and write it down.  So I did.

Your list could (and surely will) be quite different. It’s not my purpose to convert you to accepting my goals. But, if there is something you want to do —  something that hasn’t been working in your life then, the only hope you have of getting it done is to do something today.

I’m not going to let the obstacles/challenges/complexities standing (pushing against) me succeed in delaying my progress one more day.  So what if it’s snowing – and probably going to snow for the rest of the week?  I let that stop me in January but, it’s not going to stop me in February!

I’m going mall-walking.

What about you?

I was told that new readers are confused by this method – my affirmation on top of a thought-piece.  And over the last few years, I’ve experimented with a number of different formats for my affirmation and contemplation posts.  Those experiments just didn’t work for me – for this blog – and I’m going back to this format. And I apologize in advance for any confusion for new readers.

Challenging the Challenges

Just 4 TodaySo I fell down yesterday.  And that’s not a metaphor — I actually did fall down. I spent a lot of the day worrying that I’d be walk-less for a while because of it. Luckily everything seems just fine (well — I’m still half-paralyzed from the pain in my shoulder but, THAT’s another story) and I’m going to take my morning walk in a couple of minutes.

This sort of thing is typical.  Planning a diet, dreaming about the results — that’s the fun part.  The reality is that there is always something coming along to interrupt those plans.  And (it seems to me) interruptions are much more common during this time of year – The Eating Season – than the others.

So . . . Just 4 Today, I’m going to pick myself up and take a nice long walk (and another one later in the day) – measure all my portions – take my medication & supplements & drink 2 liters of water.

What are you going to do today?

Just4Today (Getting it together. Together)

Just 4 TodayJust 4 Today, I’m wearing my E4T charm bracelet.  It was rough going for a while this morning when the bracelet wasn’t in the keepsake chest where it belongs.  And it didn’t help that Mister gloated (just a little) about how long it’s been since he’s seen it.

I had to systematically go through every nook & cranny in my bedroom and closet — but I finally found it!! I’m hoping this effort has an impact and I stick with my daily charm.  (I guess it already has since I’m writing this post)

Anyway…. I had a lot of time to think while I was plowing through my stuff.  And I decided that in addition to watching what I eat during this eating season, I will also do my shoulder exercises everyday.

I can’t remember if I’ve shared the fact that I have a painful bone spur in my shoulder.  It’s been affecting my sleep dreadfully (AND Mister’s sleep too.) I’m almost at the point of begging for surgery or amputation.  But, as a last-ditch-effort I’m going to focus on doing the exercises I learned at great expense last spring.

And to prove it — I’ve already done the ones I can remember today!!

Now, I’ve just got to find the packet of exercises I put in a safe place last summer…..

What are you going to do today?

Just4Today (Get ready…)

Just 4 TodayReady?

Here in the US, many of us are looking forward to a four-day weekend… unless you work in retail, and then it’s All Hands On Deck for the annual Black Friday feeding frenzy.

Speaking of feeding frenzy… that’s the centerpiece of Thanksgiving weekend. Some of us will be “lucky” enough to attend two or more feasts! You might be getting started as early as tonight, in fact.

Now might be a good time to review your coping strategies — and your Daily Commitment. Katiebird, as we all know, uses “don’t take seconds and don’t eat between meals.” I tend to store (rather than process) cholesterol, so I limit my meat and other animal fat intake.

At the same time, stressing out isn’t going to help. Stay calm, do what you know works for you, and enjoy the long weekend. Hey, you’ll have time to walk off some of those extra calories anyway!

So… Just4Today, I will drink 2l of water, take my fiber supplement, eat only one serving of meat, and take 20 minutes on the exerbike.
