Getting a Grip (Charmed, I'm sure)

In a signal that something bad happened on the highway, helicopters are moving quickly over our house.  And I’m sitting here thinking it would be nice if something like that could signal the bad things that are happening to my habits. (dreaming) Just think how effective it would be if swarms of photographers jumped in tiny helicopters taking pictures as I eat a piece of banana bread.  Or consider going to Sonic for that free Rootbeer Float. . . . .  (waking up) – Well.  It’s not going to be quite that easy to get a grip.

First on the list: I’m NOT going to eat between meals and I’m NOT going to take seconds. Not once.  Not all day. . . . I’m wearing my E4T charm bracelet as a reminding talisman. And I’m not going to drive anywhere NEAR Sonic until that damned promotion is over!

Just 4 Today (Tuesday June 2)

Just 4 Today....

Just 4 Today....

Just 4 Today I’m going to weigh myself (bowing, and I did), walk 5 miles (missed it yesterday), log everything I eat in my Nutribase database (ah, see- I didn’t do that either), and I’ll drink 2 liters of water & drink my fiber supplement. !!

Ok, Ok — I’ve got some improvement ahead of me.  But, if it was THAT easy, I wouldn’t need this blog.  Would you?

What are YOU going to do today?

Just 4 Today (Saturday!)

Just 4 Today....

Just 4 Today....

Just 4 Today I’m going to walk 5 miles (in at least 3 walks), log everything I eat in my Nutribase database, and I’ll drink 2 liters of water & drink my fiber supplement.

I didn’t do so well yesterday & forgot sometime in the late afternoon about the logging part.  Also, I forgot to weigh myself first thing yesterday AND today…. I can’t decide if I should do it now that I’ve already had breakfast?

What are YOU going to do today?

Friday, The power of personal commitments

I struggled with my weight and health for years before I found a trick to make managing both pretty easy & fun.  The trick was making my Just 4 Today pledge at the start of each day and writing an essay about some aspect of making a commitment real.

And it worked for years.

The inverse of that trick also works — if you don’t touch base with that commitment (saying it’s just today) that commitment loses power.  And pieces of it flicker out and away. . . . It’s not like the world comes to an end.  Actually, everything seems just a little easier – after all for me, I wasn’t having to get up at the crack of dawn to write a post read by maybe 50 or 60 people.  It was a relief really.  Really. Or not.

Well, things are changing (this a promise to both of us) :

  • Just 4 Today posted (check)
  • Coffee drunk & Breakfast eaten (check)
  • Medication & Supplements taken (check)
  • Spending time thinking about the power of dreams & plans (check)

…. Well, alrighty then! Let’s go.
