Site News Update and Open Thread

Announcing Recent Posts: Take a look at the column on the right (under Recent Comments.) It seems to work as expected. The only question is, how many posts do we want to list. Let me know, it’s easy to change.

UPDATE: Also made the drop-down list for categories! And it also seems to work (but let me know if you have problems).

I’ll be back in the morning. (I think the fire is under control — the firemen looked kind of bored the last time they showed it)

My downtown is burning: An Open Thread

Downtown Overland Park, KS is burning down. I saw helicopters circling the area (about 1 mile from my house). It’s a downtown that has been pulling out of a long slump and becoming quite the busy shopping district.

They just announced – a huge Art Gallery fire. No injuries. They haven’t realised yet that there is a paint store right there.

UPDATE: They think it’s contained to the Gallery. But, it’s still burning this is so strange to see all the film from the helicopters and smoke and this is the neighborhood I walk through when I do my outdoor walk.

(cough) Oh, and this really is an OPEN THREAD

Edited to add: I Love Man Eegee, more! I was going to post a joke or something to lighten things up. But it’ll have to wait until the fire goes out. I’m still kind of nervous.

A new look. And an Open Thread

Things will change through the evening. And I’ve thought of a solution for the 800×640 resolution monitors. I’ll find a ‘plug-in’ that allows you to switch back to the original look if you want it.

Oh, and this is an open thread. I drank 3 liters of water while I was at work. I wonder what that was all about?

[ON EDIT] I’m still working on the ability to switch ‘Themes’. I’m hoping to have it going by tomorrow night.

Are you ready to write a story? And other topics for an Open Thread

Did you know that all registered users can write articles here at Eat4Today? It isn’t hard:

Just click on the Site Admin link and select the Write option in your Dashboard. A window will open with space for a title and your article. Let your mouse drift over the tool bar and you’ll see a message explaining the purpose of each icon.

We try to keep the front page display to no more than 20 lines. So if your story is very much more than that, please insert the MORE tag
Finally, we’re trying to use categories to make retrieving articles easier. The cateories are on the sidebar to the left of the edit window. Just put a check in the box next to any appropriate categories (use as many categories as make sense — it’ll help people find your article later)

That’s really all there is to it!

On a totally different topic, today a woman I work with told me that she was going to start watching what she eats — tomorrow. What do you think I told her?

E4T, Site Update & Open Thread

Effective immediately, all registered subscribers are invited to contribute articles.

If you have an area of interest, please consider contributing regular (or even irregular) articles on the topic.

We are developing help files to make the process of writing articles a bit easier, but so far the most common questions have to do with setting categories. And it’s pretty easy, you will see text boxes off to the right. Just check the boxes that apply to your article.

Also, after today (and by the end of the day) we will limit the display of articles on the front page to 20 lines. So, if your article is longer than that please use the MORE tag to break it up sometime between the 10th & 15th line. There is a menu option for this in the EDIT window. But send me an email (katiebird@gmail.com) if you would like me to send you a screen print.

I’m very excited by this change and I can’t wait to see what you have to share.
