Tonight and tomorrow, I’ve got a couple of meetings with some educators who’ve done seminars in 2nd Life.  I’m hoping to get some pointers about how to publicize sessions.  And how to create handouts and displays.  Also, the little piece about actually doing VOICE in Second Life.  So far all I’ve done is type.  Much like here. 

Did I mention my Second Life name?  It’s katiebird Fullstop.  Have you joined yet?

They charge something in the thousands (lindon/fake money which you can buy with real dollars) and then in dollars for monthly fees. I’m trying to find something I can buy for some set amount of money and no monthly fee.

My name in Second Life is katiebird Fullstop. If we share our SL names, we can issue invitations for friendship. Which makes it easy to find who’s online.

First, I have to confess that I missed my walk today . . . .

We hardly EVER have a full day of rain, but we did today. From 9 ’till 6ish and again starting about an hour ago, it’s been nothing but rain. And fairly serious floods.

So I didn’t walk until after dinner: mister and I managed to walk for an hour then. Does that count?

Eat 4 Today at Second Life

I’ve stumbled across the virtual reality world, Second Life, three times in the last week.  First, one of our librarians gave a couple of demonstrations.  And it turns out it isn’t quite as weird a place as I thought it was.  Then today, I found out that John Dean (of Watergate fame) will be a featured speaker at a virtual forum.

I’ve been trying to think of a way Eat4Today could have scheduled discussion sessions.  But, I don’t think the blog format is the way to do that.  In Second Life our avatars could meet and talk either by voice or by typing — whichever works better for each individual.

I’m just beginning my experiment — until this evening, I’d never been there.  I think that if it happens, it’ll be around New Years. And I’ll give you all updates as it becomes more (or less) likely.
